Explore the bustling markets of the Pink City of Jaipur and enjoy a sightseeing tour.
What to Expect
After your arrival in Delhi, meet your representative and drive to Jaipur, known as the Pink City, for its abundance of pink plastered stone used to build its massive forts, magnificent palaces, and exquisite temples. Founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan.
In the morning, climb up to Amber Fort on an Elephant safari (subject to availability). Amber Fort is a classical romantic Rajasthan fort palace. Construction was started by Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by his descendant Jai Singh-I. Spend the afternoon in the city to visit City Palace - the former royal residence partly converted into a museum. In the City Palace, the Maharaja still resides there today. A tour through the different rooms, halls, and courtyards will give you a vivid impression of the wealth of the ruling family.
Afterwards, visit Jantar Mantar, the largest stone and marble crafted observatory in the world. The observatory has 17 large astronomical instruments, including the world’s largest sundial, many of them still in working condition and fully furnished with period instruments. You will also learn about how the individual instruments function.
Later on, proceed to visit Hawa Mahal, literally meaning Palace of Winds, with its ornately screened windows that allowed the women of the palace to gaze out onto the street unobserved. Hawa Mahal was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. According to your schedule, you will be driven back to the airport/ railway station for your next destination.
