Take a full-day excursion from Naples to visit the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii with a guide and to explore Mt. Vesuvius. You’ll have a light lunch and the opportunity to hike to the crater of the volcano.
What to Expect
You’ll travel by coach from Naples on a scenic route that heads out from the Sorrentine peninsula and onto the motorway until reaching Pompeii. Typically the city of Pompeii is visited in the morning, although the tour sequence may change during the high season.
At the Pompeii site your guide will accompany you as you explore the main areas of interest in the ancient city. You’ll see the baths, bakeries, the arena and brothel, and many other structures as well.
After lunch the coach departs for Mount Vesuvius. You’ll head to the 1,000-meter point by coach and then, if you wish, you can hike the rest of the way up to the crater on your own. If you think you might need a bit of help making the climb, you can hire a walking stick! When you reach the crater you have the option of going inside for a small additional fee.
If you prefer, there is the option of hiring a local guide to accompany you around the crater and tell you more about the volcano and its history. After enjoying your time on the mountain, you’ll return to the coach for the trip back to Naples.
