Discover a hidden world filled with mystery and magic in Naples.
What to Expect
1st Day:

Arrival and accommodation in hotel. After a brief meeting leave to discover a hidden world; the first step of the tour has been chosen for its great suggestive power: Fontanelle Cemetery.

The old cemetery is well-known because of a very special ritual, called anime pezzentelle (lost souls) that implies the adoption and care of an abandoned skull (capuzzella), which corresponds to a lost soul (anima pezzentella) in exchange for protection.

Cross the Materdei area on the way to via Constantinopoli, a street populated by antique dealers, literary cafes, bookstores, and restaurants and to Piazza Bellini, where the archaeological excavation of the old Greek walls lie open.

Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

2nd Day:

Meet at the hotel after breakfast. Start your walk from Piazza Dante and reach Piazza del Gesù where, on the front of the homonymous church lies the first mystery: the marks on the bugnato represent a mystery not yet solved.

In front of the church del Gesù is the impressive complex of Santa Chiara. Built around 1310 by Robert d'Anjou and his wife Sancha of Aragon on the remains of a first century A.D thermae. Very religious, Sancha was the true promoter of the work and it is still possible to feel her presence: people say that since the day she was buried in Santa Chiara, on the July 28 1345, her soul wanders aimlessly along the perimeter of the basilica.

After a short break to taste Scaturchio' sfogliatella, (a typical Neapolitan cake), delve into stories of alchemy, magic, blood, and death on the footsteps of an illustrious personage: the Prince De Sangro. Try to discover the mysteries hidden in his spiritual testament: the chapel of San Severo. Going up cardo and decumanus you'll arrive in Pietrasanta square, probably the oldest place of worship in Naples. There you'll meet two very old legends: the janare and the devil-pig.
