Planning Your Napa Valley Visit

Any point in visiting if I don't drink wine?

Definitely! The scenery is stunning and there's a lot of outdoor activites to do. Learning about the wine making process is fascinating, even if you don't want to indulge. San Francisco is nearby, so you can easily take a day trip between cities.

Where to stay in Napa Valley

There's so many exciting options, so it all comes down to budget. If you can afford to splash out, book a boutique hotel with a fitness center and spa, some of which are situated near the vineyards. There's a range of quality B&B's scattered across the area and some low-key, yet hip inns, to enjoy too. Then there's the Hideaway Cottages in Calistoga which people have flocked to for over 100 years to enjoy its natural hot springs and mineral rich waters. This real tonic is in the water, which has been said to cure arthritis, chronic fatigue system, and other ailments. For the more adventurous outdoorsy types, there are camping sites and RV parks.

Mind the goats!

These goats in Calistoga have a tendency to collapse and appear unconscious when startled. Don't be too alarmed though, it's just their quirky way. The area near the geyser is home to a herd of these Tennessee goats, who have a nervous-system disorder that causes them to keel over when startled.

While California boasts a temperate climate year-round with plenty of sunshine--it can get hot in the summertime and quite packed with tourists and locals. Best times to visit are spring and fall, when it's a bit cooler and you'll be able to have the tasting rooms all to yourself. Also fall provides a beautiful backdrop to your visit with the changing leaves throughout the valley.

What People Are Saying About Napa Valley

Sonoma Valley / Napa Valley wine tour was excellent!

Our tour guide Judith, did an excellent job explaining where we were going and what we would be doing. All 3 winery's Larson Family, Nicholson Ranch and Jamieson Ranch had knowledgeable and enjoyable tour leaders.

I found the Get Your guide staff to be very attentive.

We were very happy with our guide. He seemed very knowledgeable and wanted to make sure that we all felt welcome and had an enjoyable experience.

Exactly what I had hoped the tour would be!

I enjoyed this tour very much. Our tour guide Andy was knowledgeable about the sites, and the time we spent at each stop was just right. Great way to see the redwoods and get a taste of wine country!

Great experience, our guide did a fantastic job, had a great time!

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and made the trip fun. Didn't even notice that we had already driven an hour by the time we reached the valley. We were in SF for 5 days and it was definitely worth the trip out there. The Redwoods were amazing, wines were great! My criticism would be that we felt somewhat rushed. We did a lot in one day, but would have liked more time to take it all in. Just having an hour to explore the Redwoods is tighter than it sounds. I'd suggest extending the time of the entire trip so feels less rushed.
