Quite an incredible experience. We have done city walks in other countries (Peru, Tokyo, Mexico etc.) but this was like no other. First of all, these are former street kids so they show you their city from their perspective - and it's pretty grim. From the smelly rat-infested ledges under the bridge which was their home for a decade or so to the descriptions of how they survived - pick-pocketing, petty thievery etc. - to the time they were in jail - to the account of horrors they have witnessed (& continue to witness) - this is an intense walk that you should undertake being fully prepared to hear the gut-wrenching tales. The fact that these kids have not only survived their unfortunate beginnings - but have also been able to pick themselves up to make a decent and honest living - is astounding. They all speak incredibly good English - and they're mostly self-taught with no benefit of formal education. Uplifting and heart-wrenching at the same time. We did not stay for lunch. :-)
I had a great trip to Masai Mara in June 2021. I opted for the Toyota LandCruiser Jeep and was not disappointed. Some other cars got stuck in the mud in the reserve and we helped them out (but we did not have rain the entire trip). The driver and guide Leonard was very knowledgeable and helped us to have a memorable experience. In the first day we had lunch on the way to Masai Mara at a restaurant, followed by an afternoon game drive. The people from the group were split to 3 different camps and I landed at Linciada Camp, the same as in my previous trip. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. Sleeping in the tent was very comfortable. There were Maasai people in the camp among the staff, which added to the experience. The second day we had a full day of game drives, with so many sightings, such as lions, cheetahs with their prey, elephants, giraffes, hippos and crocodiles at the Mara river. I warmly recommend this safari also in 2021, since it never disappoints!
I had a wonderful weekend safari with Tony from Perfect Wilderness Tours. The value for money was spot on. Once we arrived at AA Amboseli Lodge, lunch was provided, then time out before a late afternoon/early safari. So many elephants! The landscape is something else and to see many animals wandering was great. After dinner, the Masai men came in and performed a show explaining their dances and gave a little insight to their lives. Yes you are invited to 'look' at their crafts they bring in, but that's part of the charm, I didn't mind, they weren't pushy and you could barter well. An early start saw us at the park for 7am and we seriously drove non-stop for over 5hrs. Too many sights to mention, all amazing, but was lucky to see a mum and baby hippo out of the swamp. Sadly no lion sightings but get it can be like a needle in a haystack. I was solo on my tour and Tony was knowledgeable, accommodating with my questions and professional. Definitely recommend!
An amazing experience. The guides were very friendly, and respectful. The tour itself goes to places you wouldn’t otherwise see as a tourist, while talking to the guys, and hearing about their interesting stories. The amount of guides on the tour guarantees a personal touch, my and my girlfriend actually had more than one guide per person, so we got to hear from them all. The guys also made sure we felt super safe and comfortable throughout the tour. Towards the end of the tour, we visited a small local which had amazing local food, just what you need after the walking tour. All in all it was a perfect experience, which I can recommend to everyone.
We had the most interesting morning with the guys. They are so open to share their personal stories and give in insight experiance on the other side of Nairobi and its inhabitants. They are looking out for their tour participants and make sure you have a great day.
