What to Expect
Day 1: Nairobi-Manguo Ponds- Gatamaiyu Forest- Lake Naivasha
On the first day you will see many montane species including the Chestnut-throated, Grey, Black-collared, Black-throated Apalises, Montane Oriole, Bar-tailed Trogons, Black-fronted Bush-shrike, Mustached Green Tinkerbird, and White-browed Crombec. You will then enjoy an overnight at a lodge.
Day 2: Lake Naivasha - Nakuru
After an early morning breakfast you'll leave for the highland grassland birding in search of two Kenyan endemics Aberdare Cisticola and Sharpe’s Longclaw. You will also get a chance to see special birds like like Wing-snapping, Hunter’s, Levaillant’s Cisticolas, Great Crested Grebe, Maccoa & African White-backed Ducks, and Lesser Jacana among many others. You will then go to your hotel.
Day 3: Lake Nakuru National Park - Lake Baringo Conservation Area
Spend most of the day in Lake Nakuru National Park birding in many habitats such us the alkaline shores, acacia woodland, grassland, rivers and inlets with marshes which have residents as well as migratory species. End the night at the lodge.
Day 4: Lake Baringo
Birding around Lake Baringo Conservation Area is especially interesting because you will spend most of the day outside the car. With the help of the local guides and luck you will hopefullysee some the specialties such as the Hemprich's, Jackson's Hornbills, Northern White-faced Scops Owl, Bristle-crowned Starling, Brown-tailed Rock Chat, Green-winged Pytilia, Red-&-Yellow Barbet, Heuglin’s Courser, Slender-tailed Nightjar. While birding along the camp site and the hotel grounds you coul also see the Verreaux's Eagle-Owl, African Pigmy Kingfisher, Black-headed Plover. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Lake Baringo Conservation Area -Kakamega
After breakfast leave for the Kakamega Forest reserve.The few stops along the way may all you to see Chestnut-crowned parrow-Weaver, Gambaga Flycatcher, Long-billed Pipit, Boran Cisticola, White-crested Turaco, Double- toothed Barbet, Western banded Snake Eagle, African toothed Barbet, Western banded Snake Eagle, African Water Rail, and Zebra Waxbill among others.
Day 6: Kakamega
Spend the whole day in Kakamega forest
Day 7: Kakamega Nairobi
Depart early and arrive in the evening.
