Seven Special Places to See in Mykonos

With sugar cube houses stacked along the coastline and the beautiful blue sea below, it's easy to see why Mykonos is one of the most photographed destinations in Greece. Known for sun holidays and excellent nightlife, there's still plenty of sightseeing in this stunning location.

Archaeological site of Delos

This well-kept ruin is known as the birthplace of Apollo, god of music and truth. In summer, arrive early for tours around the site and to see the lion statues of Mykonos.

Little Venice

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants here, so grab a table towards the end of the day to enjoy an amazing sunset. Look out for the Mykonos pelicans - an added attraction!

Matoyianni Street

This pretty winding street is the perfect shady place to pick up designer clothing and jewelry, as well as postcards, trinkets and souvenirs of your time in Mykonos.

Church of Paraportiani

This Instagram-friendly Greek Orthodox church is typically unassuming, simple and painted bright white, with a domed roof. One of the best and most pretty buildings to see in Mykonos.

Castle Panigirakis

High on the cliffs of Mykonos is this historic building, now a hotel and event venue. Here, you can enjoy views right across the bay, or take a yoga class at sunset.

Elia Beach

You'll pay €20 per day for two sun beds and a parasol on this popular beach with crystal clear waters. Eat at the great restaurant, or bring lunch with you to save a few Euros.

The Windmills (Kato Milli)

Visit this pretty Mykonos attraction for a slice of history. This site won't fill a day, but it's a nice walk from Little Venice so plan it into your tours of the area.

Planning Your Mykonos Visit

Gay travellers to Mykonos

Mykonos, Greece, has been popular with the LGBT community of the world for generations. The town offers gay bars, hotels and even gay beaches. Follow the rainbow flag to the right side of Elia beach, or visit Agrari beach, which is 'clothing optional'.

Island hopping

The beauty of visiting the Greek islands is the ease at which you can jump between them, taking in the different sights. Catch a ferry from Mykonos to Naxos, Paros, Ios or Santorini to change up your holiday. Many of these destinations can also be reached with a day trip.

Club classics

Mykonos is a quiet town, but there's plenty to do at night. Local laws on noise pollution are strict, which means you can't follow the music to find a great spot -- you need to know where you're going. Scandinavian Disco is a popular club and meeting point, but be aware, Europeans start to party late, so many won't get busy until after midnight.

What People Are Saying About Mykonos

The most helpful staff and enjoyable day ever

I was so glad I decided to spend my birthday celebrations with Sunfos Alessia and the team. Alessia herself was extremely helpful and knowledgeable from start to end, very easygoing and friendly, and clearly very passionate about what she does. The food was divine, and the snorkelling spots were excellent. The best part was definitely Delos, both circling the shore as she explained the history and myths of the island as well as exploring the ruins with their mosaics and statues. And thank you for introducing us to Mastica! Thanks from the bottom of my heart, ci rivediamo!

Fun and relaxing adventure with experienced and knowledgable staff.

Great day spent on the water filled with snorkeling and boat relaxing. Enjoyable ride, good food, and knowledgable and caring staff. Overall great time!

A must do for anyone wanting to see Mykonos!

We found this last minute and was chuffed that we were able to secure a list minute space on the Yacht! It was a very fun and informative day out. The crew were really friendly and knew their stuff! I would recommend to anyone to do this!

Boat ride in Mykonos that goes to a few beaches

I enjoyed our cruise. There were a good many people that joined ~50, everyone lays out wherever. It was actually longer than I thought on the water. We went to the island of Dragonissi but did not get to leave the boat - they said unless there is zero current, you stay on the boat - it looked like gorgeous water to swim in, if the weather cooperates. Stopped at 3 main beaches - Fragli which was different as it is non-commercialized. Had some nice olives and bread with Oozu and wine. Water was gorgeous. The next stop is just for lunch, you don't go to the beaches but it was nice to sit down with other people on the tour. Super Paradise was the last beach we stopped at - we were going to have to bus back to Mykonos town so decided to end our trip short. Believe it then stopped at two more beaches but just to let people get out. All in all, we had a good time. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and we had great weather. The beaches were great.
