  • Les Invalides: Napoleon's Tomb & Army Museum Priority Entry

    1. Les Invalides: Napoleon's Tomb & Army Museum Priority Entry

The Hôtel des Invalides was founded by Louis XIV to house veterans and wounded soldiers. It now serves as the prestigious setting for the Musée de l’Armée. This is one of the top 5 visited museums in France, attracting more than 1.4 million visitors in 2015. In the museum's collections are more than 500,000 pieces, covering the period from the Middle Ages up to the present day. As you follow a newly designed educational route, you'll find armor and weapons of the kings of France, swords, cannons, uniforms, paintings, photographs and the personal effects of important figures such as Francis I, Louis XIV and Charles de Gaulle. Your visit also takes you to the Dome Church, which since 1861 has been home to the monumental tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte. The golden dome is over 110 meters high.

I did not find the World War exhibits to be as extensive as I had hoped. However, it was still quite interesting. I particularly enjoyed Napoleon’s tomb.

  • Paris: Rodin Museum Entrance Ticket

    2. Paris: Rodin Museum Entrance Ticket

Visit the Rodin Museum with a single ticket that gives access to the permanent collections shown in the Hôtel Biron, as well as the Sculpture Garden and the current temporary exhibition.  The new museum layout is designed to focus on the journey of Rodin’s work. Rather than presenting a “new Rodin,” the museum aims to show the evolution of the artist's technique and style. You will see many pieces that have never been shown before in an exhibit, as well as his more famous works for a fully comprehensive view of Rodin’s pieces.  The aim of the museum is to offer the visitor an immersive experience in the world of his sculpture, and of sculpture in general. The layout of each floor of the new museum is designed as a loop, and is accessible to people with reduced mobility. After seeing the works inside, head out to the sculpture garden. Stretching over three hectares, the grounds are div...

Wonderful visit. A huge amount to take in. What would be a very useful addition would be an audio guide. We first encountered audio guides many years ago [at the Plantin Moretus museum in Antwerp] and they really do add another dimension to a museum tour. For an additional charge, we would be more than happy to participate.
