  • See the dazzling onion domes of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Smolensk
Explore the fairytale architecture of the 16th-century Novodevichy Convent on a 2-hour guided tour of one of the greatest of Moscow's attractions, second only to the Kremlin. Admire dazzling onion domes of gold, towering bell towers, and more.
What to Expect
Novodevichy Convent is one of the Moscow's most beautiful cloisters. Located in the southwest of the city, where the Moskva River bends to form what looks like a peninsula, its amazing architecture is perhaps second only to the Kremlin among the city’s attractions.

Explore this fairytale complex of gold and silver onion domes and a towering octagonal belltower on a 2-hour tour with a guide who will explain its history.

Built as a votive convent in the early 16th century by Prince Vasily III of Moscow, it was constructed to commemorate the return of Smolensk to Russia from Polish-Lithuanian rule, and consecrated to the wonder-working icon of the Mother of God of Smolensk.

Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and accompany you by metro. Then, walk within the walls to visit several of the ancient churches, including the huge - and most important - 5-domed Cathedral of the Virgin of Smolensk.
