Full description
The tour begins with pickup from your accommodation in Moscow and heads into the picturesque Russian countryside as you travel to the historical Golden Ring region. On the way, admire the quintessential small wooden houses that appear to be frozen in time. The first stop of the tour is The Trinity Lavra in Sergiev Posad, a unique architectural masterpiece protected by UNESCO World Heritage organization. The Trinity Lavra is known as the ‘Russian Vatican’ as it is the main Orthodox monastery and has played a significant role in the history of Russia. Climb to the top of the bell tower and admire the stunning views across the land and the golden domes of the nearby cathedrals. Get up close to the bells as you listen to them ring and learn about their history. After the bell tower it’s time for lunch at a local restaurant to enjoy a selection of authentic Russian delicacies. Sergiev Posad is believed to be the birthplace of the Russian doll Matryoshka, so visit the town’s doll factory next. Considered to be the best place to buy an authentic Russian matryoshka, purchase a souvenir for your trip, or learn how to paint your own.
