Start the tour with a walk through the city center of Sintra and go to the decorative Quinta da Regaleira estate to explore the famous initiation well and the many lakes, fountains and the aquarium dotted across its grounds. The journey continues to the eclectic Monserrate Palace, a glorious estate that once served as a summer residence for the Portuguese court. Loved spending all the time in Sintra instead of going there as only part of the excursion. Our guide Mathew was excellent in terms of breadth and depth of knowledge about the history of many things ! Not just Sintra but a big picture of all of Portugal and Spain .. of the Iberian peninsula . Very friendly and easy to work with . Good timing to see things plus personal time to shop , lunch , etc including knowledge of design in the castles .
Four kilometers from Sintra’s historic center is the unique Monserrate Palace, located in the center of a beautiful 30-hectare park. The Park and Palace of Monserrate were included in the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, which was been classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Site in 1995. The 19th-century castle is known not only for its unique Moorish-Gothic-Indian style architecture but also for its surrounding gardens. Over the years, the gardens have welcomed plant species from all over the world. In the various gardens, you will find surprisingly contrasting scenery, from tree ferns from Australia and New Zealand, to agaves and yuccas from Mexico. Seek out the Himalayan rhododendron and the bamboo-fringed Japanese garden abloom with camellias. Enjoy a stroll along the paths and discover ruins, lakes and waterfalls.
Lovely park with lots of different plant species. Monserrate Palace is absolutely beautiful and great for some romantic photos . I only wish that the digital map was more easily available, so the website does need some refining. At the moment you can only find the map, either by searching on the site, or by going to the “Professionals” area and then selecting “Press”.
Meet your local guide at your hotel, then hop in an air-conditioned minibus/SUV and begin your full-day adventure. A UNESCO World Heritage Listed Location, Sintra is bursting with palaces, mansions, and romantic charm. On the tour, immerse yourself in the rich history of the town and discover why it has been a source of inspiration for authors and artists throughout the centuries. Follow your guide through the picturesque streets of the town’s historic center, and stop at a local café for a traditional Portuguese pastry. Then climb the winding mountain roads to the stunning Sintra National Palace and admire its array of eclectic architectural styles, including Moorish, Manueline, Gothic, and Mudéjar. Later, make your way to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. From here, soak up breathtaking views of the infinite blue Atlantic Ocean and lose yourself in the gli...
Very much enjoyed our day with Miguel. He was very personable and informative. He allowed us to spend time in places that were of interest to us without rushing us or imposing his desires on us. It made this tour so much more enjoyable than with a whole crowd of tourists who all had to do the same things.
Travel along the Marginal Avenue, a winding waterfront road with sweeping views of the Tagus River and the Atlantic Ocean. You will see beautiful views, white sandy beaches, fishing vessels, ancient fortresses and old mansions. Passing by Estoril, you'll see the largest casino in Europe. At Cascais, take your time to walk around the scenic fishing village and a former vacation destination for the Portuguese Royal family. Bask in the narrow alleys and see the traditional Portuguese white houses, the stunning beaches and relaxing shores. Get sweeping ocean views from Cabo da Roca, the most western point of Europe. This place, “where the land ends and sea begins”, mastering the turbulent waters up to 140-meters high crushing loudly against the rocks offers a beautiful view of the wild coastline. Get your camera ready because Cabo da Roca is a real-life postcard. Sintra is a magical, mounta...

This trip from Villa Tours was our absolute favorite part of our trip to Lisbon! Villa tours was extremely helpful and communicative, contacting us days before our trip to make sure everything went smoothly. They set us up with a beautiful route and the drive in the open air car through the hills around Sintra was amazing. It was great to be able to stop anywhere we wanted, but were also able to see the monuments. We had use of the car for the whole day. Plus, parking, which is hard to find at some stops was a lot easier with this tiny car!! Villa Tours checked up on us throughout the trip and were readily available should we have any issues. We highly recommend this experience for the price and will definitely visit Villa Tours again on our next trip to explore another area! Thank you for an amazing journey through your beautiful area!
There are two main intentions of this tour: that you absorb the true history of the region from an independent History researcher, and that you take back beautiful memories of the area. You'll be picked up at Sintra's train station, around 9 a.m. This tour includes tickets to Sintra's monuments, accompanied every step of the way by a historian. You will have lunch in a traditional place, where you can truly taste Portugal's gastronomy. Along the way you will visit Quinta da Regaleira, Palácio de Monserrate, Cabo da Roca, and Praia da Adraga - where you will have lunch. Afterwards, you will also experience Convento dos Capuchos, Chalet da Condessa D'Edla, and Parque e Palácio Nacional da Pena, before you head back home.
Start the tour in Lisbon and travel to the Sintra region, located about 90 minutes away from the city. Arrive at the charming village of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s surrounded by a natural park, castles, beautiful palaces, and chalets. Visit Pena Palace, one of the most famous and impressive examples of 19th-century Romanticism architecture. Next, make your way to Monserrate Palace. Explore several gardens where an impressive botanical collection can be found, with plant specimens from all over the world. Continue on to the westernmost point of continental Europe at Cabo da Roca. Travel along the coast and take in fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Stop in the towns of Cascais and Estoril, which were once popular retreats for the European aristocracy.
Escape from Lisbon or Cascais and travel to Sintra on a full-day private sightseeing tour. Tour the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at leisure, and take advantage of the flexibility of your itinerary by choosing the sites that interest you most. Admire the city's 19th-century Romantic architecture and consider visiting your choice of Pena National Palace, the Castle of the Moors, Monserrate Palace, and the Sintra National Palace. Consider exploring the nearby nature as well, including the Sintra Mountains and Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. You may also want to visit a local cafe or bakery to try out traditional Portuguese pastries.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Sintra from Lisbon. Our guide, Alex, was terrific! He was punctual, polite, and easy to talk to. In addition to telling us about Portugal’s history, he also told us about what life is like for most Portuguese. The weather wasn’t great for our trip - rainy, foggy - but Alex helped us make the best of it. We highly recommend this tour!

My experience was excellent. Especially thanks to my guide Naithieu. He was friendly and very helpful. He dropped me back to my hotel and was informative and a great driver. He was also kind enough to offer me his shoulder to lean on going down the stairs.
Best decision ever! The service was great, the car a lot of fun to drive but best of all they give you an extra battery pack which you will desperately need.
Matthew was a great tour guide and was extremely knowledge about almost every aspect of Sintra; from the history and castles to the nature and environment.
It was a wonderful tour; exceptionally organized with a knowledgable and funny tour guide (Joao) and we were able to see the best parts of Sintra.
The palaces and countryside around Sintra are a must see if you are in Lisbon and this small group tour with guide is excellent.
