Climb aboard one of the most recently refurbished vessels in the fiord for a Milford Sound nature cruise. Capture the best views of the incredible fiord with three-levels of indoor and outdoor seating, large windows and spacious viewing decks. Be welcomed on board by a friendly crew and marvel at one of the most stunning places on earth. Relax in the comfortable seating and feel relaxed in the knowledge you won't miss a moment of Milford, as high-definition cameras project outdoor footage live onto TV screens throughout the vessel. Admire New Zealand fur seals basking on rocks and feel the spray of cascading waterfalls. Look out for playful dolphins and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the rare and elusive Fiordland Crested Penguin. Travel the length of the fiord and out into the Tasman Sea, to see why Captain Cook failed to discover Milford Sound after charting the Fiordland National Park.

Meet at the Milford Sound Visitor Centre and look for Pure Milford. Allow 5 hours of driving time from Queenstown and 3 hours from Te Anau. Check in at the Pure Milford counter, located on the right-hand side as you enter the terminal.

Know before you go

  • There is disabled parking just outside the terminal, with ramp access down the wharf.
  • The bottom deck of the Gem of the Sound is explorable for wheelchair users, with accessible toilets and the Cafe/Bar on this deck. Provided it is not too windy, there is access to a small rear viewing deck on this floor too.
  • The Maiden of Milford can be accessed from the wharf, however there is an entry door with a large lip that will require to be stepped over, or for a wheelchair to be lifted over. There is a large spacious viewing deck and Cafe/Bar on this level for guests to enjoy. The onboard toilets on this vessel are down a steep flight of stairs, and so if guests have difficulty with or are unable to climb stairs, the accessible facilities in the terminal  must be used before and/or after the cruise.

A wonderful boat trip, loved the whole trip and even saw some dolphins . The weather was great and the viewing from the top deck was perfect, but wrap up warm! The inside of the boat was lovely but viewing from the inside would have been disappointing as the side windows have a bar across just at the height you want to look out at, saying that, lots of people sat inside. We braved the top deck the whole time, as I didn’t want to miss a moment .

Despite the weather we enjoyed our cruise with pure milford ...staff friendly ....plenty of space on the 1030am departure. Maybe a bit tight if a coach group were to arrive .. wonderful scenery waterfalls...low clouds .. made for a great cruise adventure

Absolut värt att åka till Milford Sound. Det man bör tänka på är att det inte finns något wifi där eller i närheten så håll reda på vilken båt och bolag man ska ska med. Vi hade vår bekräftelse på mail som inte gick att öppna, så vi fick gå runt och fråga de olika bolagen var vi bokat. De är iofs på samma ställe, men har man ont om tid är det bra att ha koll. Sen tar de NZ €25 för parkering om man har bil med sig. De har visserligen en gratis-P, men den hittade vi inte ens. Kanske inte är så svårt om man kollar ordentligt. Det är dyrt med mat ombord om det inte ingår, och det är långt till närmaste matställe. För övrigt är det grymt vacker och häftig natur med svindlande höga bergsväggar som reser sig hundratals meter ur Milford Sound. Blir väldigt bra foton!
