Enjoy a boat ride through the mangroves while pink flamingos give a spectacular show as they fly just overhead! On this full-day tour from Merida you’ll travel to an estuary on the eastern coast to the natural breeding ground of the flamingos.
What to Expect
On this full-day excursion you’ll travel to a port that’s located about 60 miles south-west of Merida, where some of the Yucatan’s most exotic species of birds and animals exist side by side. Enjoy a boat ride that takes you through the mangroves, while pink flamingos provide an amazing show as they pass overhead.
The estuary is their natural breeding ground, where they return after long flights along the eastern coast.
You’ll have a chance to beat the heat by taking a dip in the sweet, fresh-water that comes up from the ojos de agua, or eyes of water, that are hidden among the natural tunnels of the estuary.
After this refreshing break you’ll head to the tampetén, or petrified forest, in the heart of the town. A beach of unequalled beauty will be awaiting you at your final stop on the day’s tour!
