Things to do in Memmingen

Memmingen seduces its visitors with the best preserved medieval old town in south Germany. This city has seen 850 years of history, still alive in its five gates, five medieval towers and its 1.4 km medieval walls. Its town hall, gateways and churches seduce the eye while maintaining a Mediterranean flair. It is famous for being the place where the first set of Human Rights were ever written, called the Twelve Articles, in 1525. Romans also left their mark here, where ancient Roman roads crossed. These roads later came to be used in the Salt Route east to south coming from the Salt Mines in the mountains next to Salzburg, and connecting the north of Europe to Italy and the Vatican.
