A Great Ocean Road day tour with small groups of 11 enables you to truly enjoy an inspiring day. All this plus a unique gourmet dining experience for lunch.
What to Expect
Great ocean road day tours depart Melbourne at approximately 7:45am and travels south west towards the ocean. Travelling towards your first stop keep your eyes out for wild kangaroos, making a stop for photographs if they are out to play. You arrive to the gateway to the great ocean road Anglesea. You get morning tea consisting of cakes biscuits and choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. If you wish to have something more substantial to eat or you prefer espresso style coffee then there is a beautiful cafe across the road. 

Beside a beautiful river you stretch your legs and ready yourselves for a great day of touring. Journey through Aireys Inlet past the Split Point Lighthouse before arriving at the Memorial Archway built in 1939 marking the gateway to this famous coastal drive. Here you will have the opportunity to get the postcard shot of the Great Ocean Road sign hung from the Memorial Arch. Make your way down to the beach for your first coastal walk.

Your next stop on your great ocean road day tour will be a photo opportunity in the beautiful seaside town of Lorne. Head up to Teddys Lookout highly regarded as one of the best lookouts on the great ocean road. Here take a walk out to two stunning lookouts offering a unique perspective of the Great Ocean Road. Keep your eyes out for wild kangaroos and koalas. 

Continue your journey along the most scenic part of this morning’s drive with a photo opportunity at Mount Defiance. It's at Mount Defiance you will learn the story of William Buckley who survived in the wilderness 200 years ago. Wind along this inspiring coastline towards Kennett River where koala's hang above the road.

You stop for an extended break from the road to spot as many koalas as you can as well as attract many wild parrots and crimson rosellas. Continue your great ocean road day tour towards Cape Patton the highest elevation of this morning’s drive, the last section of the Great Ocean Road complete in 1940. At the time was considered an engineering feat of the modern world supported by thousands of tonnes of boulders. Stop for an incredible photo opportunity before making our way to Apollo Bay.

On arrival to Apollo Bay you will be escorted to your reserved table at La Bimba restaurant. Once seated your waiters will serve warmed Turkish bread with garlic olive oil and a trio of dips to start. Once entree is digested you will be served an incredible banquet of local produce. You will get many dishes in order to taste as much as you can. You spend an hour in Apollo Bay offering a short time before departure for ice cream, souvenirs or provisions you may need.

After lunch in Apollo Bay you make your way across the Otway’s heading towards your next stop a beautiful bushwalk through a temperate rainforest showcasing an ancient world once known as Gondwana. Here you will see one of the best living examples of what dinosaurs would have seen 180 million years ago. You will also discover the amazing Mountain Ash the 2nd largest species of tree in the world reaching heights of over 300 feet. Then journey through the Ayre river wetlands making our way towards the amazing limestone coast & the 12 apostles.First stop you will have the option to hike along the Great Ocean Walking track for your first glimpse of these impressive limestone stacks standing strongly in the thunderous Southern Ocean. Hike the last 500mt of this inspiring trail offering the only views of the 12 Apostles with no tourists,  just us.

The Great Ocean Walk then leads you to Gibsons steps. It's here that you will have the opportunity to make your way to the beach where you'll feel dwarfed by towering sheer cliffs and the scale of our coastline. The only beach access to see the 12 Apostles. The world famous 12 Apostles Lookouts is next where from no other vantage point will you see as many limestone stacks lined up one behind the other. This is the world famous 12 Apostles. A thrilling way to see the 12 Apostle formations is from within a helicopter. Scenic flights depart from the 12 Apostles visitor centre every 15 mins which start from $145.00.

Loch Ard Gorge is next. Dripping with maritime history you'll hear stories of bravery & historic tall ships bringing to life these dramatic coastlines. As you descend into the gorge be mesmerised by the scenes of one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. You'll then round out an exceptional day with time to explore Island Archway, Salt and Pepper Shakers, The Razorback and Mutton Bird Island.

The journey back to Melbourne is approximately 2.5hrs travel time and much like throughout the day we'll offer many opportunities to use the bathroom. At approximately 6:30pm you have the opportunity to purchase takeaway dinner before then making our way back to Melbourne returning at approximately 8:30pm.
