Best things to do in Melbourne
The sights of Melbourne may not be as famous as rival Sydney's, but the charm of the world's "most livable city" nevertheless draws tourists from far and wide. Melburnians know how to have a good time, and so will you if you know what to see and do!
1. Melbourne Cricket Ground
As the birthplace of Test Cricket and the "spiritual home of Australian Rules Football," it's worth catching a game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground just for the atmosphere, even if you don't know what's going on!
2. Queen Victoria Market
The Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere and has been the heart and soul of Melbourne life since 1878. Treat yourself to one of its famous hot doughnuts if nothing else!
3. Eureka Tower
Named after the Eureka Rebellion that ushered in Australian democracy, the Eureka Tower is the city's tallest building. It offers spectacular views from its Skydeck.
4. Melbourne Aquarium
Located on the north bank of the Yarra River, the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium is one of the city's top attractions. Discover over 2,000 different creatures across 12 habitat zones!
5. Melbourne Zoo
If you don't have time to venture out into Australia's expansive outback, have no fear! You can visit many of the country's endemic species at its largest zoo.
6. Melbourne City Centre
Tour Melbourne City Centre with sightseeing opportunities that include the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens and Hoddle Grid's historic lanes and arcades.
7. Melbourne Museum
Visit Melbourne Museum to learn more about the city and its... well, everything really! From dinosaurs to early computers, don't expect to cover it all in an afternoon!
Planning Your Visit
When to go?
The best time to visit Melbourne is during fall (March to May). Not only is the weather at its most tolerable, but the changing colors of the city's foliage lend an air of charm to its Victorian-era buildings. If you can, try to catch the annual Food and Wine Festival during the first half of March!
How many days?
If the purpose of your visit is simply to see Melbourne's sights then you will need at least 2 or 3 days. That said, Melbourne has a multitude of festivals happening year round so consider staying for a bit longer if any of them take your fancy!

What people are saying about Melbourne
Our guide Shan was kind, caring and noticing small things, spotting Koala and Kangaru from a distance. He did his best to create a day trip perfect for everyone, and I do appreciate your efforts. And it was more than enjoyable experience. Even the restaurant he took us for lunch, I expected somewhat mediocre level of cafe, but it was really proper restaurant with beautifully presented food (and I had meticulously cooked snapper and a glass of chadonay), and around 3-4PM, we stopped to spot Koala, there was a cafe with real Gelato - I had a cup of Blood Orange - the best for the hot weather. I highly recommend this trip to everyone. Shan even had this vegan Chocolate balls his wife made for us to taste. Such a sweet guy!!!!
Our group of 8 all loved leaning everything about street art by one of Melbourne's wellknown street artists culminating with a visit to Blender studios and meeting a bunch of artists there too! This is a real insider's view. I discovered lanes I've neever walked down and Im a Melburnian(!) plus hidden installations and curios everywhere. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and well informed re current social political issues impacting alot of street art. We learnt heaps about different styles, genres and history. We left feeling very inspired with lots to talk about.
An unforgettable and wonderful experience! The organization was very professional and always updating on every single detail. The van was truly comfortable. Our tour guide Matt was very informative, professional and always trying to fit all our needs during the trip, paying attention to all the details and explaining throughout all the places we went past an interesting description. Believe me when I say that this tour is good value for the money! Beautiful landscapes and personalised attention, you won't be disappointed.
Great fun, brings out different things in peoples personality and we posed, laughted and took some great photos - the staff assisted in educating us on taking even better photos and the kids posed to their personality - not to crowded and kept the conversation going long after we left the building.
We enjoyed our day at the Zoo because they provided ample Covid-Safe facilities to ensure plenty of space between visitors and access to hand disinfectants around the venue.
