10. Mauritius: Guided 3-Hour Le Pouce Hike

Your hike begins in the region of Moka, which is known as the “heart” of Mauritius. Begin with an introduction, which includes a briefing about security and the mountain hazards. There will be plenty of stops during the hike so that you can rest, take plenty of photos, and learn about the unique flora and fauna of the island and the surroundings of the mountain. Traveling at your own pace, your experienced mountaineer will monitor your pace and ensure there are plenty of breaks to rest, slow down the pace, or even move faster whenever needed. The first section of the hike travels through the forest of the mountain, allowing you to enjoy a nice meditative walk for 600 meters in the midst of indigenous plants and trees. The hike then continues to a section where you can enjoy magnificent views towards Port Louis and other peaks of the Moka range, primarily the Guiby peak. Following 700 meters you will reach the shoulder of the mountain, which has an altitude of 736 meters. This area is basically a large flat area of land providing breathtaking views towards the south and northeastern part of Mauritius. At this point your guide provides you with delicious snacks as well as enough time to rest and take plenty of memorable photographs. The hike then continues to the peak, with your guide ensuring that you take the easiest and safest path possible. The last part towards the summit requires some rock scrambling (good hiking shoes/boots or sports shoes are recommended) which can be tackled by both beginner and expert hikers. Once you arrive to the summit, be rewarded with an incredible 360-degree panoramic view. Whilst on the summit you are given enough time to relax, enjoy the moment, take plenty of photographs, and receive more information about your surroundings. Following your time at top of the mountain, make your way back to the meeting point with your guide ensuring your security the entire way.

What people are saying about Mauritius

Kevin was excellent at explaining how to track safely and guided the difficult parts of the trail. Hiking with guide is definitely worth it especially if you are novice hiker since the trail has some tricky parts. Kevin was knowledgeable about flora and fauna, as well as history of the island and incorporated that all into the hike. I definitely recommend doing the earliest hike since it allows to beat the crowds and the heat.

We had the most exciting experience with Kevin! Not only we safely reached the summit, but we also learned a lot about the history of Mauritius, about indigenous herbs and birds, smelled “apple” and “pepper” tree :) Highly recommended to have Kevin as a guide!

Very well organised. Kevin was great. We were lucky with the weather. If you like hiking and exploring the Mauritian nature, this one is highly recommended.

I had an amazing time climbing Le Morne Mountain. The tour guide was brilliant and I would recommend this to everyone.

Kevin was a great guide, very knowledgeable and helpful
