Learn to cook like an Italian at a 3-hour cooking class in one of the cave restaurants of Matera. Prepare traditional dishes, including home made pasta and ragout, using fresh seasonal ingredients. Enjoy a 3 course dinner at the end of the day.
What to Expect
Enjoy a unique experience in the Sassi di Matera, and take a 3-hour cooking course in one of the legendary cave dwellings of the historic former capital of Basilicata.
Many of the UNESCO-listed sassi have now been converted into bars and restaurants, and your lesson will take place in one of them. Meet your guide on Piazza Vittorio Veneto and stoll over to the market to choose the freshest produce, depending on what’s in season.
Then, go to the restaurant kitchen, carved into the rocks of the Matera canyon. Begin by chopping, mixing, and cooking the ingredients. Your cook will teach you the secrets of the local cuisine, explaining the ingredients that make it unique. By late morning, your chef will prepare a small appetizer to close the course.
Then, return in the evening to enjoy a 3 course dinner. Savor the flavors of a vegetable-based appetizer, a 1st course of hand made pasta, and a typical main course (or dessert on request).
