Discover the best of Provence and its villages in a single day on a scenic sightseeing tour from Aix-en-Provence or Marseille. Drive through the dramatic landscape of the Alpillies Natural Regional Park and marvel at the limestone gorges and canyon.
What to Expect
Depart Aix-en-Provence or Marseille and journey to the most beautiful places of Provence. Discover monuments that date back to Roman times and the Middle Ages, hilltop villages and dramatic landscapes. Go to the gorges and limestone canyon of the Alpilles Natural Regional Park to reach the medieval village of Les Baux de Provence.
Located on a rocky spur, the 12th-century fortress was built by a family of knights known as the lords of Les Baux. Get panoramic views of olive groves and vineyards, and stroll through the village at leisure. Soak up the atmosphere of the narrow streets, full of history.
Next, drive to Saint-Remy de Provence to see a triumphal arch built by the Romans. Visit the mausoleum of the Plateau des Antiques, close to the archaeological site of the ancient city of Glanum. Benefit from some free time to take photos of picturesque Saint-Remy de Provence, or go to a typical Provencal market (on Wednesdays).
Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage village of Gordes in the natural park of Luberon and discover one of the most beautiful villages in France. Enjoy some time at leisure to visit the church and square before going to Roussillon, where the russet-red of the village is offset by the greens of the surrounding forests. Walk along a path that takes you past one of the ocher mines, or get 30 minutes to explore the village.
Taste the local lavender ice cream, before ending your Provence adventure at the authentic Provencal village of Lourmarin. Admire the 18th-century castle and enjoy a drink on a terrace before you journey back to your original meeting point.
