What to Expect
Take a trip to the enchanting Luberon region in the center of Provence. The area was brought to the world’s attention by Peter Mayle’s best-selling book, “A Year in Provence,” in which he describes buying a stone farmhouse and trying to settle as an Englishman in rural France.

Nestled between 3 mountain ranges in the Luberon Massif, it’s a bucolic region of stone villages, gnarled vineyards and bustling markets.

Visit Isle-sur-la-Sorgues and discover its famous antiques market. Known as the “Venice of Provence,” the town is encircled by the River Sorgue. Continue through the villages of Fontaine de Vaucluse, Gordes, Roussillon and Lourmarin.

Stroll around Lourmarin, surrounded by vineyards and orchards. The village where Peter Mayle settled, you will soon see what attracted him as you pop into traditional boutiques lining the streets of the picturesque town.

You will visit Gordes, perched on a hill of a valley that provides sensuous views. One of the most picturesque villages of the Luberon, take time to enjoy the charming atmosphere before moving on to Roussillon.

Sitting on a hilltop with fantastic views of the lavender fields of Luberon, the red-tinged village of Roussillon feels like a trip back in time. It has been protected from development since the 1940s. Soak up the atmosphere of another enchanting town as you wander the cafés and stores, before your return to Aix-en-Provence or Marseille at the end of a relaxing day in the country.
