Start with a guided 1-hour walking tour of Aix-en-Provence and wander the historic center along paved streets full of history. Walk down the Cours Mirabeau, lined with plane trees. marvel at the cloisters of the Cathedral, and come across picturesque fountains and open-air markets.
Stop at 2 prestigious sweet shops to taste their wares, including the local delicacy called “calissons,” made from almonds and crystalized melon, and the candies of a legendary local chocolate maker.
Continue to Roque-d'Anthéron for a guided tour of the Cistercian Silvacane Abbey, founded in the 12th century and dissolved in 1443. Soak up the tranquility of its remote location next to the weed-covered River Durance.
Lunch at leisure (at your own expense) in Roque-d'Anthéron village, before taking the scenic roads to Luberon. Enjoy the picturesque landscape en route to Lourmarin at the foot of the Luberon Massif. Visit the pretty Renaissance castle and walk down medieval streets. Next, visit the village of Ansouis, dominated by a 10th-century fortress.
If you want to taste the wines of Provence, an optional wine tasting can be taken at the end of the tour. You will be taken to a remarkable winery with a sculpture garden. Sample 3 of the wine makers produce in the domain cellar, before your return to Marseille.
