  • Trek around Imlil’s valleys and villages
  • Visit the famous Toubkal Kasbah
  • Have lunch with a local Berber family
Travel from Marrakech to Imlil and Toubkal National Park by car. See the Moulay Brahim Gorges and the weekly market in Asni (Saturdays) before arriving in Imlil, where you’ll trek through the foothills and valleys and enjoy lunch with a Berber family.
What to Expect
You’ll be picked up at your hotel or riad at around 09:00 by car for the 2-hour drive to Imlil.

At an elevation of 1,740 meters, Imlil is situated in the upper-level foothills of the Western High Atlas mountains, and features a main trailhead with streams and paths branching out in all directions.

When you arrive you’ll leave the vehicle behind and stop in the village for a welcome glass of mint tea and to meet your local guide. Then you’ll set out on a 4-kilometer trek to the Berber village of Aroumd, at 1,843 meters, passing the hamlets of Ait Souka, Targa, and Imoula, up and down the stark slopes, with the jagged Western High Atlas peaks of the Toubkal Massif before you. You’ll see Jbels Aguelzim (3,547 meters), Aksouâl (3,847 meters), and the Adrar Adj (3,122 meters).

Stop at Aroumd to visit this rather unique village in the Assif Aït Mizane Valley, built seemingly house upon house on a large moraine spur, overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of barley, corn, and vegetables, and surrounded by almond and walnut trees.

The trek then continues for another half hour until a stop for lunch, which will be served at the home of a Berber family in the village of Achayn. After lunch you’ll head back down the other side of the valley to Imlil, and then return to Marrakech.
