What to Expect
Experience authentic Moroccan culture and landscape on a magnificent 8-day hike of the Toubkal region of the High Atlas Mountains. Hike between 3 and 6 hours, and stay in remote guesthouses and mountain refuges under a canopy of stars. The tour is ideal for medium-level hikers who want to get back to nature and escape the bustle of city life.
Day 1: Marrakech – Imi Oughlad – Tizi Oussem
Start your trek in a forest of green oaks, reaching the Tizi ‘n Tacht Pass at an altitude of 6,560 feet (2,000 meters). You will hike for approximately 5 hours during the day. Rest up for the night in a guesthouse.
Day 2: Tizi Oussem – Tazaghart
Today’s hike takes about 6 hours. You will walk up the Handour Valley, passing oases of palm trees. The trail crosses a river, irrigation channels, and small Berber villages. Spend the night at Razzoun.
Day 3: Tazaghart – Toubkal
Ascend to a height of 11,800 feet (3,600 meters) to admire the superb views of Jbel Toubkal and the High Atlas Mountains. You will then walk down to the refuge of Toubkal. The hike lasts approximately 4 to 5 hours.
Day 4: Toubkal
Go on an optional easy climb of Toubkal, at an altitude of 13,600 feet (4,165 meters). This is the highest summit in North Africa, and offers a gorgeous view of the mountain of Siroua and the valley of ImIil. Spend the night in a mountain refuge.
Day 5: Toubkal – Sidi Chmaharouch – Tamatert
Descend to the village of Armed, 6,000 feet (1,850 meters) above sea level. You will walk via the Marabout of the Sidi Chamharouch Valley. Spend the night in a local guesthouse. Total hiking time for today is approximately 3 hours.
Day 6: Imlil – Marrakech
Continue your descent to Imlil, where you will be picked up for the return drive to Marrakech for an overnight stay.
Day 7: Departure
It is time for your departure and you will be transferred to Marrakech Airport for your onward journey.
