Full description
Begin your journey of Zat Valley with a hotel pickup in Marrakesh at 9 AM, where you will be greeted by your guide who will take care of you throughout the day.  Head straight to the Atlas Mountains, a 2,500-kilometer mountain range across northwestern Africa, spanning Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, and Africa's highest mountain range. On your journey, see the city of Ouarzazate with its impressive 19th-century palace, and the town of Ait Ourir, where you'll stop to visit the weekly market if your tour takes place on a Tuesday. Next, continue to Zat Valley, steeped in local Berber history and tucked between the peaks of the Atlas Mountains. Zat Valley is bordered by terraces of local, regional flora, such as poplars, and fig trees, and dotted with authentic Berber villages built right into the mountains. Hike on foot or travel by mule from the village of Tighdouine, known for its natural source of sparkling water, and make your way to the village of Talatast. If you're feeling courageous and have discussed the option with your guide, you can continue along the road to the higher village of Aït Ali, hidden behind the mountain. Take in the panoramic views of the mountain range and breathe in the fresh air along your way. Then, tuck into a well-deserved traditional lunch with a local family, before turning back down the mountain. On your return trip, you can choose to visit a women’s co-operative where 24 local women create bright embroidery and intricate glassware (Monday-Friday afternoon).
