What to Expect
Take a 3-day safari into the Moroccan Desert on a trip that leads you to a landscape untouched by time. Escaping the bustle of the city streets, you will cross the majestic Atlas Mountains on a dramatic drive, visit several old Kasbahs, including Ait Ben Haddou, and explore the stunning sand dunes of Erg Chegaga.
Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Erg Lihoudi
Your adventure begins with a dramatic drive across the High Atlas Mountains. Ascend through the 7,413-foot (2,260-meter) Tizi N'Tichka Pass, and see beautiful villages suspended on the flanks of the mountains.
Stop off at some famous Kasbahs, such as Tamnougalt, in the Draa River Valley, and Ait Ben Haddou. Dating from the 16th-Century, the UNESCO-inscribed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is one of the best preserved, and most spectacular, Kasbahs in Morocco. Explore the stunning landscape, where scenes from the blockbuster hit movie “Gladiator” were filmed.
Continue through the palm-lined Draa River Valley until you reach Erg Lihoudi, near M'hamid. Here you will settle in for your night in the desert, enjoying dinner under the moonlight, and sleeping in comfortable tents.
Day 2: Erg Lihoudi - M'hamid - Erg Chegaga
Wake to a peaceful desert atmosphere, and say farewell to Erg Lihoudi, departing on the back of saddled camels. You will ride into the Sahara desert, where, after a 3-hour camel ride, you will break for lunch in M'hamid.
Travel from M'hamid by 4WD vehicle through the beautiful desert landscape. Reach the sand dunes of Chegaga, the largest group of dunes in the region, reaching a height of 980 feet (300 meters) and a span of 25 miles (40 kilometers). Enjoy a dinner with live entertainment, and sleep in nomadic tents.
Day 3 Erg Chegaga - Marrakech
Wake to breakfast and depart by 4WD vehicle for a thrilling off-road adventure via the old Paris-Dakar road to Foum Zguid. Crossing Lake Iriqui, travel off-road through the spectacular sand dunes.
Stop for lunch in Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpet co-operative. Then, it’s time to cross the Atlas Mountains again, on the journey back to Marrakech. Arrive in Marrakech at about 18:30 for the end of your amazing desert adventure.
