Tours of Marrakech's picturesque desert vary in length from a single afternoon to an adventurous five days. To help you pick the right option, here are some of the best things to do on each.
Enjoy a camel tour through Marrakech's rural palm groves, race over the dunes on a quad bike, or even do both! Either way, be sure to stop for tea at a traditional Berber village.
Take in the scenic delights en route to Zagora - among them Aït Benhaddou, an ancient city that has been the backdrop to Hollywood movies from "Lawrence of Arabia" to "Gladiator."
Trek out to the Sahara's famous windswept dunes at Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga, spotting wildlife by day and camping Bedouin-style beneath the stars at night.
From Aït Benhaddou, detour through Ouarzazate – "Door of the Desert" – and continue over the Atlas Mountains through the historic village of Tamgrout and Irqui National Park.
Take in all of the above and throw in hikes along the breathtaking Todgha and Dadès Gorges, as well as smaller pleasures like flamingo-watching and traditional music shows!
Marrakech desert tours and safaris start at around €50 for an afternoon, with prices reaching closer to €1,000 for all-inclusive day trips lasting four to five days. Discount deals can be found if you book online, but be sure to compare comfort factors like transportation, accommodation, and food, especially for longer tours.
Marrakech swelters through hot and humid summers that can reach upwards of 104°F. However, despite the desert landscape, it experiences seasonal rains through its damp and mild winters.

What People Are Saying About Marrakech
Matthieu was an awesome guide....he really was great, putting everyone at ease as we all showed up and got ready to mount our camels. He got us all dressed in our kaftans and headscarves and then told us about his nice camels (which they really were) and then got us all on our camels and then off on our way. The tour is pretty basic and nothing like being in the desert itself, but it's a fun morning activity to "check a box" and learn so much from Matthieu. He really is knowledgeable, having done this work for the past 14years...his English is good and he keeps things informative and entertaining the whole time. They provided water, then hooked us up with delicious mint tea and beignets at the end. He helped us take pictures and video and made the trip entertaining and enjoyable for us all. The van out and back from the camel trek was very slow and we were late because again they said to meet at Club Med....it should be "in front of the mosque"....that's much easier for people.
a well organized trip to the desert. the only thing I disliked where the high (un- Moroccan) prices at the drink and foodstops (specially those of the food)
Absolutely worth it!! Great price, lots of activities, very kind driver and awesome atmosphere. We would definitely do it again :D It was the best organized trip we've ever experienced.
The tour to Merzouga was great, very well organized and incredible value for money! We got picked up and brought back to our hotel and the trip includes the Kasbah road, Ain Ben Haddou, Tinghir, two long camel rides during sunset and sunrise, a night in the desert (where it is hard to find any sleep) and and and… Always time to take pictures and buy food & drinks in between. Would highly recommend the tour! Only thing you should be aware of is that you are taken around by a very nice, friendly and safe bus driver, who explains some things, but is not a full tour guide. Anyhow, in Ain Ben Haddou and Tinghir, you have a local guide. In our opinion, a full tour guide is not necessary as the tour and the landscape are fascinating by themselves, but if you want to have very comprehensive explanations, you may miss something.
