Full description

Explore the High Atlas Mountains on a full-day hiking excursion and discover several Berber villages and scenic landscapes. Ride a camel along picturesque trails and enjoy a traditional lunch in a Berber household with local mint tea.

Depart Marrakech in the morning and drive to the Moulay Brahim Gorges. Arrive at the main trailhead and experience the dramatic scenery on a camel ride. Hop back aboard the vehicle and pass Berber villages on your way through the Imlil Valley.

Arrive at the village of Imlil where a local will welcome you with a glass of mint tea. Hike for 2-3 hours to Armed, the highest and largest village in the Imlil Valley. Go by the hamlets of Ait Mizan, Targa, and Imoula on your hike to the Berber village of Ait Souka.

Stop on the way at Tamatert, and take in sweeping views of ancient irrigation terraces for barley, corn, and vegetables. Admire cherry orchards and walnut trees before you reach the home of a Berber family in Ait Souka.

Sip on a refreshing mint tea while savoring a traditional lunch in the home of a Berber family. Return by going down the other side of the valley through Taourirt and ride the van back to Marrakech at the end of the tour.

This trip was a great way to see the different Berber villages in the Atlas Mountains. Very interesting with beautiful picturesque scenery. The women’s Argan oil cooperative was very enlightening into the way Argan oil is made. The ladies were very welcoming and helpful. Our driver Hassan was friendly and informative and our local guide Rachid Mazik made the hike very enjoyable with his useful knowledge of the local place and his sense of humour. The lunch at local Berber family was a lovely way to end of w time in The Atlas Mountains.

Everything we did was really cool. The walk up the mountain was extenuous, but maybe because we did it in the summer. Nevertheless, our guide, Ibraim, was very attentive and made lots of stops. Food was amazing as well at lunch. The only reason why I rate 4-stars is because I chose a saturday specifically because of the berber market that I knew only worked that day, and we didn’t stop there, only passed through. Otherwise, great.

The tour was really worth it, not only because of the impressive backdrop of the Atlas Mountains and the insight into the life of the people in the Berber villages, but also because of our driver Hassan and our guide Rachid Jellah, who are both very personable, speak perfect English and us could tell a lot about the country and the culture. We particularly enjoyed the authenticity and the little tourism. The "hike" was more of a mountainous walk with small stops and individual breaks could be made at any time. Absolute recommendation!
