What people are saying about Manolas
This trip was very well organized. It is affordable because there are about 75 people on each boat. But they've got handling this number of passengers down. Taking this cruise is a nice way to see Santorini from the sea. You will be hiking rocky paths so make sure to wear tennis shoes, not sandals. You'll have an opportunity to buy lunch on Therasia. There are several restaurants at the port and there are also 2 restaurants at the top of Therasia. The hike up Therasia is strenuous but the view from the top is definitely worth it. The only suggestion for improvement I'd make is in the music played while sailing back to the port on Santorini. Not sure why they couldn't play the original versions of the songs they were playing (e.g. Bob Marley) instead of elevator music versions. Also the lyrics for one of the songs was not something I'd want my kids to listen to (e.g. killing girlfriend in bed). Music artist suggestions: Bob Marley, Van Morrison, Temptations, Beach Boys, etc.
The volcanic island is really interesting and our guide was able to tell a lot of nice details. I could have spent some more time there. Swimming to the hot springs was less special than I had expected, but still a nice experience. At Thirassia island the crew recommends to stay at the harbour and spend all your time (read: money) at their partner restaurant for lunch. I'm happy that I did walk up to the village. The view is worth the climb (if you're reasonably fit) and the panorama restaurant is a friendly place. Unfortunately the pick-up and return service was kind of a mess, I only got the time and location details the night before. On the way back, finding our coach was messy too and the driver made a weird detour.
If you have limited time/ budget in Santorini and want to explore the other parts of the island this is the tour for you. Volcanoes, hot springs (they provide noodles so go ahead and swim!), Thirasia (not much here but great stop for lunch and relax), then Oia (I say this area is overrated or just overpriced but go ahead and take your pics and see the sunset if you can - it may be too foggy to see; the cheaper areas to eat are just outside of the main entrance). Overall I had a fun experience and left Santorini satisfied. The guides were nice and knowledgeable and the staff even drove my friend and I to the airport free of charge.
Overall, this was a really good trip. The tour guide was very informative and helpful, but gave you plenty of time to explore things at your own pace. It's quite a long walk up to the top of the volcano, but the views from the top are pretty spectacular. The hot springs are a bit of a disappointment (and you have to jump off the boat and swim to them). The lunch stop at Thirassia was nice and it's worth the walk up to the top if you have the energy. The boat trip back was fairly relaxed and takes you past Oia and Thira on the way back to the port.
A lot of the excursions where exspensive but this was very reasonably priced, lots to do and a great day overall. The tour guides where very knowledgeable and kept the group together and where very clear on the departure times from each stop. I would highly recommend this . The local team were excellent!
