Learn about the history and culture of Manaus, Amazona's capital in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Then take a speedboat down the Amazon River to witness the Meeting of the Waters and a floating village.   You’ll be picked up from your hotel and drive to the historical center of "old Manaus." On a walking tour through town, notice the facades of the neoclassical buildings created during the rubber boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visit the majestic Amazon Theatre opera house in the main square, and head to the market complex to see the three buildings known as the banana market, fish market, and municipal market. Check out the Rio Negro Palace, formerly a German rubber baron's residence that is now a museum. Next you will drive through the port and embark on a speedboat to witness the most impressive phenomenon of the Rio Negro and Amazon River, or Solimões River as it is called upstream, that run side by side without mixing their waters. Then venture to the floating village where all the houses, school, churches, bars, restaurants, and other structures are built on logs to float on the lake. Disembark at a floating fish farm and have an encounter with one of the biggest freshwater fish in the world, the famous pirarucu.   Get back in the boat for a nice ride upstream heading to Lake January, filled with giant waterlilies. Have a walk on a suspended walkway as high as the canopy of the trees, and see the sumaumeira, the biggest species of tree in the Amazon.

After enjoying the convenience of hotel pickup in Manaus, make your way to the Amazonian Museum. Buy your entrance ticket when you arrive (about 30 BRL) and then enter the museum. With your guide, find exhibitions, a nursery of orchids and bromeliads, a lake, aquariums, and experimental laboratories full of snakes, insects, and butterflies. Discover the Amazon Rainforest by staying at Amazon Boto Lodge, a Jungle Lodge with all activities and meals included. The lodge is located 120 kilometers south of Manaus in the lake Juma, which is an area surrounded by a beautiful virgin forest. The lodge was built on stilts in an isolated area in the jungle with a view to the lake and jungle. The lodge does not disrupt the natural environment, which is important for forest conservation. Stay in private suites with air-conditioning and bathrooms. The Lodge is a simple and clean place, perfect for small groups interested in exploring the Amazon Jungle. You won't be overrun by guests: the Lodge hosts no more than 18 persons a time. Lunch and dinner are generally regional fresh fish, chicken, beef, beans, salads, rice, vegetables, and fruits. At breakfasts, enjoy bread, cheese, eggs, coffee, milk, juice, tea, and fruit. Day 1: At 8:00 AM, you’ll be transferred from your hotel to the Caesa port where a speedboat will take you to the “meeting of the waters”, the point where the Rio Negro and Solimões River meet. From there, you’ll be taken to the Careiro Village on the other side of the Solimões River. This excursion continues by car or van for about 1 hour to Maçarico lake. A final trip by speedboat takes you to the lodge, arriving there at approximately noon.   At 3:00 PM, the day’s activities begin. Leave the lodge by canoe for dolphin and bird watching, as well as piranha fishing. End the day by observing a spectacular sunset around 6:30 PM before heading back to the Lodge for dinner. At night, go Cayman spotting, a truly thrilling experience. Day 2: At 5:30 AM, you’ll be taken by canoe to watch the sunrise in the Amazon rainforest. Return to the lodge for breakfast before heading out for a jungle trek that takes up the rest of the morning. During the walk, you’ll learn all about medicinal plants, trees, and insects—you might even see some monkeys. If the 2-day option is booked, after lunch, leave for Manaus at around 1:30 PM, arriving for about 4:30 PM. If the 3, 4 or 5-day option is booked, the afternoon activities start at 3:00 PM with a canoeing adventure in a flooded forest. From September to February, this activity is done by trekking. Spend a few hours quietly passing through the exuberant Amazon jungle while learning about the flora and fauna from your guide. After dinner, go out on a motorized boat for the Night Safari, where you’ll be likely to see some wildlife along the rivers and small channels.   Day 3: From 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, visit the home of a local family to learn about their simple but wonderful way of life in the forest. Return to the Lodge for lunch. If the 3-day option is booked, after lunch you’ll leave for Manaus at about 1:30 PM for a 4:30 PM arrival.   If the 4 or 5-day option is booked, after lunch, go out to explore some more small channels and spot birds, monkeys, Caymans and dolphins. Optionally, learn about nocturnal wildlife by staying overnight in the forest and going spearfishing.   Day 4: After breakfast, go trekking in a different area where you’ll learn survival techniques and plenty of facts about the forest. Return to the Lodge for lunch. If the 4-day option is booked, leave for Manaus after lunch for a 4:30 PM arrival time. If the 5-day option is booked, prepare yourself to go out camping in the woods and spend the night in the forest with your guide.   Day 5: After breakfast, go on a canoe trip to explore and swim in the lake. Return to the lodge for lunch at about 11:00 AM. After enjoying lunch, leave the lodge and head back to Manaus.

During this botanical city tour, you will visit the two best natural parks in Manaus to get a sense of how rich and diverse the Amazon region's wildlife and nature really is. The first site to be visited is the Amazon Museum (MUSA), located in the botanical garden Adolpho Ducke, which in turn is part of the largest urban forest reserve on the planet. In this botanical garden, you will walk along a forest trail and you will visit a lagoon with water lilies (the largest aquatic plant on the planet). You will also visit an aquarium with several species of fish from region, including the famous pirarucu (Arapaima gigas). You will go to a serpentary where you can learn more about the different types of snakes found in the region, as well as several exhibitions about the fishing techniques of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon. You will also have the opportunity to climb a 42 meter high observation tower from where you can see the vastness of the rich forest. After this, head to the Amazon National Research Institute (INPA), where several researchers from around the world seek to know more about the greatest biodiversity on the planet. In this open park, you will have the opportunity to glimpse various animals and plants from the region such as manatee - which for many years were hunted predatorily near to extinction and today find refuge in a project to repopulate local rivers and lakes. Besides the manatee, you will be able to see several other species like the giant otter, turtles, alligators, and electric eels.

The tour was very expensive, but well worth it, especially with the excellent guide. Milton Fernandes knows everything and speaks excellent English. Absolutely great.

Great tour with Milton, we got to see Manaus on land and by boat. Excellent trip!!

We paid for two events but the second was closed. I still had to pay full price.
