Giriama is one of the subtribes of the Mijikenda (9 tribes) people that inhabit the coastal area of Kenya. This is a unique trip to the African Village for an unforgettable, true, authentic, and un-staged African experience, interact with the locals, eat what they eat, do what they do, and talk as they talk. The tour will open a door into the daily lives of local villagers, you will understand their way of life from their point of view. Stop one: Ibiza Market Once the guide picks your group, you will pass by the Ibiza Market, here you will appreciate how local communities live and do trade. This is an open-air market full of activities. Traders sell multiple things ranging from fish, clothes, and food items. Stop 2. Local School You will then pass by a local community school overlooked by a huge Baobab Tree. You will have a chance to interact with joyous school kids depending on the time of the day. If you have any gifts (toys, balls, sweets, clothes, etc) feel free to share them with them. Stop 3: Madafu and palm tree climbing and ugali preparations. You will then go to the Madafu section, where the local person will climb a palm tree with you and harvest a fresh Madafu depending on availability and season you will be invited to taste. Depending on the time of the day, you can prepare a traditional meal known as ugali cooking using firewood and cashew nut preparations. Stop 4: Traditional healer You will then visit the traditional healer a respected medicine man who used traditional herbs to heal many deceases. Here villagers still subscribe to unconventional medicine that they believe are solutions to most of the ailments. You will have a chance to be taken through how they make the medicine from traditional herbs and how this skill is passed over to generations. Stop 5: Dance Arena You will then be guided through the cool narrow streets of Mwamanga village. The next stop will be the dance area where you will dance your problems away. Each dance has a meaning from wedding dances, celebrations dances to funeral dances You will be invited to dance several dances of the Giriama people. Tsavo East day trip begins with pick up from your hotel before sunrise (5:30 am) and follow the busy Mombasa – Nairobi road to the first gate to Tsavo East national park. Short stopover before entering the park via Bachuma gate. Embark on your first game viewing exercise in search of the red Elephants, lions nicknamed the “Man eaters of Tsavo”, Buffalo, Cheetah, Giraffe, Antelopes etc. Visit the famous Aruba dam where lots of wildlife can be seen especially during the dry season. Later proceed to a restaurant for lunch. After Lunch, leave for another game drive in this largest National Park in Kenya before your exit. Start your tour from your hotel with a visit to the Gede Ruins lying in the southern part of Malindi nestled in a thick forest. The Gede Ruins remain as a hidden secret. While at Gede ruins you will be able to come across old ruin houses, palaces, courtrooms, wells, mosque which were built with plaster, sand and coral dated back to 15th Century. Have a visit to the National Museum which has displays of excavated glass, persian and porcelain. Thereafter, proceed to Malindi Swahili Town. You will come across the stone known as Vasco da Gama Pillar placed by Vasco da Gama back in 1499. Here you will also have a chance to see the Portuguese church next to the pillar. Visit the Snake Farm which houses the largest collection of reptiles such as snakes in East Africa. Pick up from hotel and Drive to Tsavo east National park using the Mombasa Nairobi Trans- African highway and use the Bachuma Gate. You visit different sections of the park especially the loop side of the park which is swampy as most animals are found there. Visit the pipeline area where most of Elephants concentrate since there are lots of water holes to do mud bathing. Here you get a chance to see different wild animals especially Giraffes, Zebras, Buffaloes, lots of Elephants and if your Lucky see the Big CATS either hunting or hunted and feasting on a kill especially lions.
