What to Expect
Spend some time immersing yourself in the artistic history and culture of Jordan on this 45-minute workshop in Madaba. Then take part in this traditional art form as you work on a mosaic and sand bottle art of your own.
Located about 18 miles (30 kilometers) from Amman, along the 5,000-year-old Kings´ Highway, Madaba is known as the "City of Mosaics."
In particular, it is famous for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. Make a point to visit the 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of vividly-colored local stone, it depicts hills, valleys, villages, and towns as far as the Nile Delta, and covers the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, which is located northwest of the city center.
