What You'll Do
  • Visit six attractions in one day
  • Take in amazing views of the Holy Land from the summit of Mount Nebo
  • Relax at the Dead Sea Beach
Visit Madaba city including: St. George and Martyrs churches, Mount Nebo, Baptism site at Jordan River, Mujib Reserve Siq Trail and Dead Sea beach on this day trip.
What to Expect
You will be picked up from your hotel in Amman around 8am. After a 1-hour drive, you will reach Madaba City and start the tour by visiting St. George and Martyrs churches, and then at 10am head to visit  Mount Nebo Church. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the Holy Land and the valley of the River Jordan. The West Bank city of Jericho is usually visible from the summit, as is Jerusalem on a very clear day.

At 11am, you will arrive at the Baptism Site (Bethany Beyond Jordan – Jordan River). Afterwards, you will head to the Al-Mujib Siq, (open only in the summer, closed November to March), at around 2pm. The trail starts at the Visitor Center near the Mujib Bridge. From there you will take the walkway over the dam and follow the course of the river. You can also try swimming. (In winter time, you will take a visit to the Dead Sea for an amazing panoramic view). At 4pm, you will be taken to the Dead Sea Beach to spend an hour relaxing before making your way back to Amman for a hotel drop off around 7pm.

Madaba is historically one of the oldest towns of the Middle East. It was part of the lands allocated by Moses to the Reubenites and the Gadites (see Joshua 13 v9). This was the land of Moab, where Ruth came with Naomi and it was here that she met her second husband. Later it became known as the Christian town of Madaba and contains many churches, most of them ruined but where you can still see some extraordinary mosaics from the 7th and 8th centuries. This was Madaba's "golden age" when it was an important town and the seat of an archbishop.
