What to Expect
See the beautiful châteaux of the Beaujolais wine region and visit a winery to taste the wines.
Following a pick-up from your hotel in Lyon (or nearby), transfer to the southern reaches of the Beaujolais region in a few short minutes. Drive into the "Land of Golden Stones" (named because of the color of the stones used to build each house) and wind through local villages. Stop in Oingt, considered one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Visit an artisanal chocolate factory in Oingt and discover how cacao is transformed into chocolate. Continue your journey and enjoy views of the different chateaux of Beaujolais, including Bagnols, Jarnioux and Montmelas. Throughout the day, your guide will stop and explain about the wines and different characteristics of the terroir (land) and different wine regions. At Midday, break for lunch in a typical auberge of authentic Beaujolais charm.
Start the afternoon with a visit to a family-owned winery in the vintage wine areas of Beaujolais. Explore the stately property with your guide and go to the unique wine cellar. Taste some of the estate's wines.
There will be time for a number of stops and photo opportunities during the short drives between sites, including at an ancient windmill nestled among vines. Stop on the summit of Mt. Brouilly to enjoy unobstructed views across the Alps. Admire the lakeland area of the Dombes. Then return to Lyon passing through landscapes of ancient vineyards and generations-old grape vines.
