Full description
You’ll start your tour at the main Greek Catholic church in Lviv, which was built in the 18th century by Bernard Meretin on the highest hill in the city. The facade of the church is one of the most striking national Baroque monuments, and is decorated with a sculpture of St. Yurii (St. George the Victorious). The interior of the cathedral is no less interesting due to its wonderful iconostasis and the pompous ambon, which is a place for sermons. The most mysterious place of the cathedral is the crypt under the altar, where a small dungeon serves as the tomb for bishops, priests, and monks. Your next destination will be Mount Vysokyi Zamok. Climbing up the mountain you will see the remains of an ancient royal castle, which long ago rose above the city and whose ruins will remind you of its former greatness. Traveling further up you will reach the lookout where you will receive perfect views of Lviv and its surroundings. You will have enough time to admire the sights of Lviv from above, and can also take excellent photos. Your final stop will be to the Lychakiv Cemetery, where many famous Ukrainians found eternal peace. Its war graves attract tourists from other countries, and if you previously believed cemeteries to be sad places, this beautiful open-air museum will surely change your mind.
