Explore the world's greatest open-air museum on a day trip to Luxor from Hurghada and its surroundings. Go to the Valley of the Kings where the golden treasures of King Tutankhamun are entombed, see the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut and more.
What to Expect
Journey to Luxor by air-conditioned bus, and relax on the 4-hour drive from Hurghada as a representative tells you about the ancient Egyptian civilization and culture of Luxor. Get information about the timings of your tour, and hydrate with some complimentary cool drinks served along the way.

Cross to the west bank of the Nile River, where the extensive complex of 63 royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings includes the golden treasures of King Tutankhamun that still lie with his original accessories in his tomb. Look at the hieroglyphics and inscriptions on the walls of each tomb as they tell the story of the kings.

Next, go to the “Most Sacred of Sacred Places” at the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut in Deir el-Bahari, where the 3 terraced courtyards are covered in sculptured reliefs. See stunning examples of Egyptian art, such as the surviving lions on the Middle Terrace. Observe the painted walls of Egypt's first and oldest queen, the Pharaoh Hatshepsut.

Then it's time to dine at a quality local restaurant and feast on some delicious Egyptian food. After lunch, continue to the Karnak Temple Complex and discover the largest place of worship ever built in the world. Dedicated to the gods Amun, Mut and Khonsu, the grand temple is still capable of overshadowing many wonders of the modern world.

Your guide will lead you around the ruins of the temple, where pilgrims have flocked for nearly 2,000 years. Wander among the 134 columns of the Great Hypostyle Hall, still the largest room of any religious building in the world. Continue to the Colossi of Memnon and admire the 2 giant statues that sit on a huge granite plinth.

See the texts dedicated to Amenhotep III at the rear of the statues, and take a closer look at the king's legs flanked by smaller images of the Great Royal Wife and his mother. Next, go to a local bazaar to see how papyrus is made, and visit an alabaster factory to learn more about this form of marble.
