Visit the ancient ruins of Luxor on a full-day tour from Safaga Port. See ancient Egyptian temples, tombs, and monuments, including the Karnak Temple, Colossi of Memnon, Valley of the Kings, and Valley of the Queens.
What to Expect
Sometimes called the world's greatest open-air museum, the ruins of Luxor are unparalleled anywhere in the world. But what most people think of as Luxor is in reality 3 different areas, consisting of the city of Luxor on the east side of the Nile, the town of Karnak just north of Luxor, and Thebes, which the ancient Egyptians called Waset.
Following a pick-up from your cruise ship at Safaga Port, drive to Luxor to see Luxor Temple, built by Amenhotep III from Nubian sandstone. You will also visit the other great monument of the East Bank, Karnak Temple, said to be the 2nd most visited site in Egypt after the Pyramids of Giza.
Next, cross the River Nile by felucca - a typical Egyptian sailing boat - to explore the mortuary temples of the Temple of Hatshepsut at the Colossi of Memnon.
Continue to the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. Used primarily for the burials of Pharaohs, from approximately 1539 BC to 1075 BC, the Valley of the Kings contains at least 63 tombs, while the nearby Valley of the Queens, where the wives of the Pharaohs and the princes and princesses were buried, contains some 70 tombs.
