What to Expect
Explore some of Ancient Egypt’s most important archaeological sites on this full-day private tour to Denderah and Abydos. Departing from Luxor, you will head north through the Nile Valley to the edge of the desert in Upper Egypt.
In the company of an Egyptologist guide, explore the box-like temple of Denderah, a former healing center didicated to the wife of the god Horus. Built between 30 BC and 14 AD, the temple is one of the youngest in Egypt, and is surrounded by thick columns and walls. See the reliefs of pharaohs, deities, and Roman emperors, as well as the roof chapel dedicated to Osiris.
The site also includes the remains of a 5th-century Christian basilica, and a sanatorium where pilgrims would bathe in the sacred waters.
Your full-day excursion also includes a visit to Abydos, one of the holiest sites in the world for Ancient Egyptians. A cult center for the worship of the god Osiris, you will explore the main Temple of Seti I, built around 1300 BC by Seti and his son Ramses II. Notable for its reliefs, see ruins of statues and pillars covered in remarkable carvings of Ramses II, Isis, Osiris, and Horus, as well as a famous carving of the Flower of Life symbol.
