See 2 sensational Pyrenees locations with a tour of the pilgrim city of Lourdes and a trip to the Pic du Midi for spectacular panoramas. Ride the cable car to Europe’s highest museum and get spiritual enlightenment at the Baslilicas of Lourdes.
What to Expect
This full day tour combines spiritual enlightenment with spectacular natural scenery as you explore the legendary pilgrim city of Lourdes at the foothills of the Pyrenees, before heading up the mountain for enervating views over mountain peaks.
After a hotel pick-up in Lourdes, your guide will take you to the Sanctuary where you will visit the 3 Basilicas of the Immaculate Conception, the Rosary and the Underground, as well as the Grotto where the Virgin appeared 18 times.
You will get a greater understanding of what exactly happened in the city 150 years ago that turned it into a major center for Catholic pilgrims.
Continue your tour by driving out to the mountains and riding the cable car to the top of Pic du Midi. At a height of 9,437 feet (2,877 meters) above sea level at its highest point, the Pic is the very symbol of the Pyrenees Mountains.
The ascent takes a mere 15 minutes thanks to a cable car, and once you’ve reached the celestial viewing terraces you can gaze southwards over the magnificent peaks of the Pyrenees range and northwards across the low-lying plains.
The summit is famous for its exceptional beauty, but it also boasts a splendid observatory, renowned for its scientific significance and for the fascinating museum, where you can learn why the Pic is so precious in the hearts and minds of the locals.
