Visit the Glenfinnan Monument, which symbolizes one of the most important events in Scottish history; the 1745 Jacobite uprising. Next, departing Glenfinnan, sit back and relax on your journey to Edinburgh, passing through the spectacular Cairngorms National Park and stopping for refreshments at the small village of Pitlochry on the way.

Departing from Glasgow in the morning, we travel north, pausing for refreshments in the highland town of Tyndrum, before continuing onwards to Glencoe. The Glen is arguably one of Scotland's most famous glens, and features in James Bond's 'Skyfall'; spend time soaking up the dramatic atmosphere, as well as taking some fantastic photos, and learn all about the history of the Massacre of Glencoe. Travelling through more unparalleled highland scenery, we reach the town of Fort William. We will stop for lunch in the loch-side town, where you can enjoy stunning views across the lochs, as well as taking a look at Ben Nevis, Britain’s tallest mountain, which sits just outside of the town. After our stop in Fort William, our one-day Glenfinnan tour travels eastwards to the main attraction of the day; Glenfinnan Viaduct, famous for its many appearances in the Harry Potter movies. During the summer months, you will also be able to see the iconic view of the Jacobite Steam Train (or Hogwarts Express) crossing the viaduct. Don’t forget your camera! Surrounded by mountains on the shores of Loch Shiel, the Glenfinnan Monument symbolises one of the most important events in Scottish history; the 1745 Jacobite Uprising. We spend approximately one hour at the monument, with enough time to learn the history of the Jacobites and for you to get some iconic photos of the magnificent bridge and the stunning surrounding area, steeped in Scottish history. Not only is this location famous for the Glenfinnan Viaduct, but Loch Shiel was the location of the 'Black Lake'; see if you can spot a 'grindylow' under the surface causing mischief! It's also the setting for Buckbeak's beautiful flight, scenes from the Triwizard Tournament and also the stunning loch where Hogwarts is based. From Glenfinnan, we begin our journey back to Glasgow, and very soon we cross over a canal with a series of locks on the right called Neptune’s Staircase. It is part of the Caledonian Canal, which along with four lochs, allows boats and ships to make a 96 km journey from the west to the east side of Scotland. A true feat of Scottish engineering. We continue our journey south, heading past the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. We will stop here at Tarbet for a comfort break before our tour continues and we return back to Glasgow.

Drive west to the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, best known for its scenes in the Harry Potter film series, which is beautifully set among mountains on the shores of Loch Shiel. This enchanting location is famous for the Jacobite Steam Train, often compared to the Hogwarts Express. We aim to arrive in time to watch the train cross the viaduct during it's afternoon service. Please note that the Jacobite Steam train is run on a seasonal basis. (06.05.2024-27.09.2024, schedule is set by the train's operator, and is subject to change.) Loch Shiel also plays the role of the “Black Lake”, used as the backdrop to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in several of the films — look out for the “Giant Squid” stirring up trouble! As you depart from Glenfinnan, your scenic journey back to Edinburgh begins. Your first stop is the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge, where you can take in the stunning views of the Nevis Range. Continue along the picturesque Loch Laggan and then ascend above the Grampian Mountains. Travel through the western regions of the beautiful Cairngorms National Park and pause in the charming village of Pitlochry for refreshments. Departing Edinburgh, we will take our first short drive heading north to see the mysterious Kelpies. Scotland’s largest piece of outdoor art depicting mythical creatures of Scotland’s folklore. We’ll then continue on our journey and pass Stirling Castle. Be inspired by tales from your guide of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Continuing north, into the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, admire the scenery as your tour guide explains the remarkable tribal clan history of the Highlands. Heading West we make our way towards the town of Balloch, situated at the southern of Loch Lomond’s Bonnie Banks where you will have a chance to explore and also take an optional hour-long boat cruise on the loch. We continue north to the village of Arrochar which nestles on the edge of Loch Long at the foot of the high peaks of the Arrochar Alps. It’s onwards and upwards over the steep pass of Rest and be Thankful for our lunch stop in the village of Inveraray – seat of the Clan Campbell and Dukes of Argyll. The town is lapped by the sea water of Loch Fyne and is famed for its oysters and seafood. On to Kilmartin Glen, one of the richest Neolithic sites anywhere in Europe. The Glen is home to dozens of ancient standing stones, rock carvings and burial chambers. You will have time to stroll among some of nearby standing stones and burial chambers. We will then continue on to Oban where you will be staying for the night. Day Two: Departing Oban we travel up the side of Loch Linnhe through the Great Glen to our first stop of the day in Glencoe. Considered by many to be the most impressive glen in Scotland. Your driver guide will explain the details of the Glencoe massacre and why it was such a turning point in Highland history – stoking the Jacobite Rebellions for many years to come. There will be time for many photographs in Glencoe before we make tracks for our next amazing location – Glenfinnan Monument and Viaduct. In more recent times, Glenfinnan Viaduct has become very well known to fans of Harry Potter as the magnificent railway bridge crossed by the Hogwarts’ Express. We’ll then travel to Fort William where you can either take a tour of Ben Nevis Whisky Distillery or explore the ruined late 13th century Inverlochy Castle (free). Lunch is in Fort William, the second largest town in the Highlands (after Inverness) where the ruined fort was destroyed by Jacobite forces at the very start of the 1745 Rebellion. After lunch we will head to Pitlochry situated in the heart of the stunning scenery of Highland Perthshire. As we re-enter Edinburgh from the North, you will be met with views of Scotland’s greatest piece of engineering, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Forth Bridge. This 19th century engineering marvel was at one point the World’s longest cantilever bridge. Today it neighbours the 20th century Forth Road Bridge and the 21st century Queensferry Crossing which opened in 2017.The expected arrival time back in Edinburgh is around 6:30 PM.

A perfect place to take some photos of all the Scottish Highlands have to offer: mountains, lochs and forests. Shortly after is the start of Rannoch Moor - the largest bog expanse in the UK. There are several photo stop opportunities along the way. Next we will make ou way to the most photographed place in Scotland: The Three Sisters of Glencoe. This is an incredibly beautiful mountain viewpoint full of poignancy and historical relevance. We will then stop over at the shore of Locah Linnhe to admire the beautiful Castle Stalker. Built in 1320 by the MacDougal Clan, it was visited by King James the IV, a relative of the Stewart Clan that owned it at that time. Castle Stalker has been the film location of a few films, notably, the 'Highlander' and 'Monty Python's Holy Grail'. A possible lunch stop is Creagan Inn, a family run restaurant serving a variety of Scottish themed meals with a well stocked bar with over 120 single malt whisky's. St Conan's Kirk is our next stop. A wee hidden gem of the Scottish Highlands, this Kirk was voted by Architects as a top ten building in Scotland, and with a crypt with a bone from Robert the Bruce it's a most quirky building, alike to a 'Game of Thrones' scene. Our final stop before returning home is Kilchurn castle, a great stop for photos, it was a formidable fortress in its time, surrounded on three sides by water. 10 mins photo stop
