What to Expect
This day trip from Lisbon to the medieval townlet of Óbidos is a journey into the past.
The individual tour starts in Lisbon, on the Avenida da Liberdade in the Baixa district. You will take a short stroll through the most beautiful squares in the capital, taking time on your way to admire the impressive Sé Cathedral and the view from Graça. Then you will pass by the Monastery of São Vicente, the National Pantheon, and the main streets of Chiado and Estrela. Further highlights are the monastery of St Jerome, the Belém Monastery, and the Monument to the Discoveries. The route will take you through the Belém quarter, whose monuments you may admire, and where you can relax over lunch.
Then you will leave Lisbon behind you and drive further north through the rolling hills towards Óbidos, which is considered by many to be the most beautiful town in Portugal. The cobbled streets are incredibly picturesque, and the houses, decorated with geraniums and bougainvillea, make this one of the most romantic medieval locations in Europe. Before the end of this beautiful journey back in time, you will have the opportunity to try Óbidos' most famous local specialty: Ginjinha, a cherry liqueur, served in a cup of hot chocolate.
