Get to know another aspect of Portugal through this all-day tour north of Lisbon. Journey to Fátima, where visions of Mary were once seen, then enjoy the journey across the rugged Atlantic coast, and finish the day with a traditional Ginja liqueur.
What to Expect
Your excursion will begin in the morning with the journey to Fátima, where a series of apparitions of Mary took place in 1917. Visit the sanctuary built on the precise site of the apparitions, which has since become one of the most important Christian places of pilgrimage. Fátima receives 5 million visitors each year.
Next, travel further along Portugal's beautiful Atlantic Coast. On the way, make a brief stop at the impressive fourteenth-century monastery chapel of Batalha, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Then explore Nazaré, a small fishing village directly on the Atlantic. Enjoy the breathtaking view over town and ocean from the Sitio Cliff. You'll also have the opportunity to eat lunch in one of the many fish restaurants here.
In the afternoon, yet another high point of the program awaits: the little medieval town of Óbidos, one of the most romantic in Europe. With its unusually picturesque cobblestone streets, bordered by colorful houses, geraniums, and bougainvillea – enclosed by the city wall and the twelfth-century castle, this town is always worth the trip. Finish the day with a Ginja liqueur, served they way they only do in Óbidos – in a chocolate cup!
