What to Expect
Escape the hustle and bustle of Lisbon for the day on a private 8-hour tour of Evora and Monsaraz. Following an optional pick-up from your hotel, transfer by air-conditioned minibus to the stunning countryside of the Alentejo plains.
Go to the well-preserved town of Evora to explore its historic, UNESCO World Heritage-listed streets and monuments, including the Temple of Diana, once part of the Roman Forum of the 2nd or 3rd century. Visit the fortress-like cathedral with its museum packed to the rafters with ecclesiastical treasures, and wander around the walls of the old castle.
Continue to the village of Monsaraz near the Alqueva Dam on Europe’s largest artificial lake. Discover a side of Portugal untouched by time as you explore streets that were 1st settled long before the days of the Moors. Browse the quaint shops and restaurants of the sleepy streets, and enjoy breathtaking views of the surroundings from the town’s enviable hilltop location.
Along the way, learn about the ubiquitous cork trees of the area, and the cork production that serves the local wine industry. Go to a local winery to taste some of the wines of the Alentejo.
