Full description
When you visit the Rua Augusta Arch you’ll have access to a vantage point with a 360-degree view of Lisbon and the surrounding area. The Terreiro do Paço, the Pombaline downtown area, the Cathedral, the Castle of St. Jorge, and the Tejo River Tejo are some of the iconic landmarks that you can see from the top of the building with your admission ticket. On the upper part of the Arch, you’ll see sculptures by Célestin Anatole Calmels, including Glory crowning Genius and Valor. Lower down are sculptures by Vítor Bastos, representing the historical figures of Viriatus, Vasco da Gama, the Marquis of Pombal, and Nuno Álvares Pereira.  Inside the Arch, in the Clock Room, you’ll learn about the history of this triumphal Arch, from the time when construction first started, after the 1755 earthquake, to its completion in 1875.

The arco is great and you have a great view. With GetYourGuide, however, the people there were completely overwhelmed and there is no advantage in getting the ticket earlier. You have to stand in line with everyone else and exchange your voucher for a normal ticket. However, they were hopelessly overwhelmed with the GetYourGuide voucher on their cell phones, so it would have been quicker to simply get a normal ticket on site. Conclusion: Arco yes, but buy directly on site.

I loved climbing the arch, everything is very well thought out and the view from the top is stunning. After walking down here in Terreiro do Paço and Baixa slowly to enjoy the whole environment is very very good. The city is beautiful, this whole area full of life. Congratulations

The views from the top of the arch are amazing and if you are lucky enough to be up there when the clock chimes, which we were, you can see the awesome mechanics working. However, I wouldn’t bother buying your tickets in advance as it’s only €3 on the door. We bought ours expecting it to be nice and easy, however when we got there we were told they were invalid, which resulted in a lengthy phone call to GYG and a long wait at the ticket desk that took more time than we spent at the top of the arch.
