What to Expect
Tour the beautiful Alentejo by bike, with accommodation at a lovely countryside guesthouse. You will explore up to 5 different routes, depending on the length of your stay. Most routes take gentle roads, and travel at an easy pace.

Group sizes are kept to a maximum of 8 participants for a more intimate experience, and each tour route takes in a combination of spectacular scenery, charming villages, and visits to artisans. You will cycle for 2, 3, or 6 days, depending on your schedule, with the first and last day of each package set aside for arrival and departure arrangements.

Accommodation is at the delightful Monte Do Serrado De Baixo guesthouse. Located in a pastoral paradise, the garden is filled with light, and the grounds include an orchard, ancient olive grove, vegetable garden, and grazing sheep, as well as huge cork oaks, holm oaks, and carpets of flowers.

4 Days/3 Nights:
On day one you will settle into your accommodation and enjoy a delicious dinner at the guesthouse getting to know your fellow travelers. Day 2 and 3 will be spent cycling routes 1 and 2. Depart on day 4, with transfers back to Évora.

5 days/4 nights:
Settle into your accommodation on day 1 with dinner at the guest house. Cycle routes 1, 2 and 3 on days 2, 3 and 4. Depart on day 5, with transfers back to Évora. This package includes one dinner at the farm.

8 days/7 nights
The 8-day tour includes all 5 routes on days 2-7. You will spend the first day settling in and meeting your fellow travelers, while day 8 is set aside for your departure arrangements. This package includes 2 dinners at the farm.

Route 1: Megalithic Monuments
This route covers approximately 27 miles (45 kilometers) of easy trails along mostly gentle rolling dirt tracks.

Transfer by vehicle to Guadalupe in the morning and cycle back to the guesthouse. The trail goes through beautiful holm oak forest and grazing land. You will see cattle and sheep and, in season, you may see calves and lamb. Visit the Dolmen of Zambugeiro, a megalithic monument located in Nossa Senhora da Tourega, and the largest megalithic monument in Europe. You will also see the Cromelech of Almendres, probably the oldest megalithic monument in Europe.

Get beautiful views over Évora, see the Menhir of Almendres, the Church of Mitra, and the Roman Ruins of Nossa Senhora da Tourega. It is a rich morning cycling, with plenty to see along the way.

In the afternoon, cycle to the city of Évora and discover the amazing history of the beautiful city. Visit the surreal Bones Chapel, and the impressive 13th-Century cathedral. Finish with a wine tasting in the Évora Wine Tour shop.

Route 2: The Famous Carpets
Route 2 covers approximately 30 miles (50 kilometers) of gentle rolling roads and dirt tracks.
You will cycle from the guesthouse to Arraiolos and back.

Take the ecotrail, a green lane built on top of an old railway. Follow it through small farms, eventually reaching Graça do Divor, a beautiful and well preserved village of blue and white houses. It is a good place to stop for a drink and try one of the delicious meat pies served by Senhora Ilda.

Continue to Arraiolos village, famous for its carpets and delicious Pastéis de Toucinho. The views from the castle are unforgettable. It is now time to visit a winery and - a few kilometers later – you will see another one! Both are unique and serve excellent wine.

On the way back to the guesthouse, pass by the Divor Dam and get views of the lovely lake. 1 wine tasting is included in the tour, but you can add an optional extra tour of 2.6 miles (4.4 kilometers) to the Ravasqueira winery, and 3.6 miles (6 kilometers) to Tapada Coelheiros winery.

Route 3: Conquest of Valongo Castle
Cycle 30 miles (50 kilometers) along gentle rolling lanes, including about 3.6 miles (6 kilometers) of dirt tracks. The route takes you from the guesthouse to Valongo, with transfers back to your accommodation at the end of the day.

Start on a road lined with olive groves, gently riding up and down hills until you reach Nossa Senhora de Machede. Here you will visit a traditional leather factory and, during October and November, an olive oil mill. A visit may still be possible out of season, depending on availability.

Continue to Valongo and visit the exterior of its surreal castle, built in the middle of nowhere. Discover the Alentejo countryside at its best, as you end your tour along a dirt road to the gorgeous Moinho do Alcaide Watermill. You will then cycle along the riverside, passing by several mills until you reach the main road. You can visit a winery at the end of the tour on arrangement.

Route 4: The Medieval Village
Route 4 covers approximately 27 miles (45 kilometers) of easy, flat terrain, with a short challenging climb to Monsaraz. You will be transferred from your guesthouse to Reguengos at the start and end of the day.

The Reguengos to Monsaraz area is very unique, with schist rock marking its architecture and landscape. Vines seem to grow everywhere and, from the hillside location of Monsaraz, you will enjoy an expansive 360-degree view for miles, including Alqueva's Lake, the biggest artificial lake in Europe.

Inside the castle walls of the gorgeous village, framing the windows and doors of the houses, observe the unique schist stone of dazzling white. During the day you will also visit several megalithic monuments, while another highlight is the famous pottery village of S. Pedro do Corval.

Route 5: The Cheese and Marble Route
Route 5 involves cycling from Estremoz to Terena or Redondo, a route of approximately 30 miles (50 kilometers) on more challenging rolling roads.

Transfer to Estremoz in the morning and visit the historical center of the marble town, where you will see some quarries of the famous rock known locally as “White Gold.”

Visit the Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa, an impressive 16th-Century masterpiece, and wander through streets that boast plenty of marble architecture. You will cycle by the tranquil village of Alandroal, and finish at the flower center of Terena.

Here, you will visit an amazing fortified sanctuary and, if you are still up to it, ride to Redondo to finish your tour with some cheese and wine. Transfer back to your hotel at the end of the day from either Terena or Redondo
