  • Inside the Thrihnukagigur Volcano: Day Trip from Reykjavik

    1. Inside the Thrihnukagigur Volcano: Day Trip from Reykjavik

Enjoy a hiking tour towards the dormant Thrihnukagigur Volcano. After your transfer and drop-off at the Bláfjöll mountain cabin, walk to Thrihnukagigur Volcano, a moderate hike of approximately 45-50 minutes, enjoying the breathtaking lava scenery en route. The hike is classified as moderately difficulty, with straight walks and limited elevations. But the surface is hilly and uneven. Upon arrival at the crater, descend 400 feet (120 meters) inside the volcano, and experience an extraordinary natural phenomenon. You will be informed about all safety procedures and how to behave inside the volcano, wearing a helmet and harness at all times. Each group is split into a smaller party of 4-5 people for safety and intimacy. After a slow 10-minute descent, to ensure the safety of passengers and provide ample opportunities to experience the amazing views, spend up to an hour inside the volcan...

Inside the vulcano was beautiful and very special! The colors are amazing!! I really liked it! It was very nice. The hike to the vulcano was long and extremely cold because of the weather. When we arrived there was no time too warm up. We had to go in a hurry inside the vulcano and when we were inside we had only 25 minutes to enjoy the surrounding. For me this was too much in a hurry and too short for the value of money. But despite all that the experience was really amazing!

What people are saying about Laugarvatn

... a once-in-a-lifetime and must-see event, everything super organized, the hike over the lava field is moderate, you feel absolutely safe at all times, even in the volcano, the chamber is gigantic - you should go ahead Practice taking photos in a (semi) dark environment during the trip;) the guides understand their craft and give a lot of information, the food at the summit station is delicious, we were totally lucky with the weather, but you should also expect that it will be frequent It can be hazy, hazy, windy and the weather quickly breaks, we did the morning tour, we were able to look at the reiykjavik bus and the sea from the crater, the people on the afternoon tour who came towards us didn't see that much of the lava field For tours in the rain, however, suitable protective clothing is provided if required, stable hiking shoes are mandatory!

Absolutely amazing experience! I am a big girl and was afraid it would be too tough for me, but it was absolutely manageable! You should be able to walk for about 5k. The guides were super nice, everyone could walk on their own time and the group stopped twice to explain something about the vulcano and let the slower ones catch up and get a breath. The last 10 minutes are quite steap but you can take your time! Super friendly guides! I would absolutely recommend it!

What an amazing time we had as a group with David leading the way! We got to see so much in such a short time and got lifetime images will never forget. Only thing that would have been better would have been having time to go down to the Studagil Canyon.

What an awesome experience; the hike the tour guide, the food, everything you can ask for. That’s just the tip of the iceberg and then you get to go inside a dormant volcano. Highly recommend.

Amazing experience. Beautiful....Was like a religious experience when one of the guides would descend to pick up people, he would sing... sounded like a choir boy in a cathedral!
