What to Expect
Gran Canaria’s Vegueta quarter is an important part of the city’s history, as you’ll learn on this 1-hour guided walk. The quarter dates to the 15th century, and is where the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was founded.
In the 1970s the quarter was declared an area of historic and artistic interest. Your guide will show you the starting point of the conquest of the Canary Islands, the Plaza San Antonio Abad, and many more fascinating sites.
Take a walk down the narrow, winding streets, and see the oldest houses in the history of the Canarian nobility. Continue along Calle de los Balcones to the Plaza del Pilar Nuevo, where you can make an optional visit to the Santa Ana Cathedral to admire its Gothic interior. Admire also the architecture of the buildings around Santa Ana Square.
The last stop on the tour will be the Museo Colon or Casa de los Gobernadores (optional visit), to see the impressive structure and to learn about the history of Christopher Columbus, who stopped here on 3 of his trips to America.
