1. Hong Kong: Big Buddha Private Hiking Tour from Tung Chung
Escape the hustle and bustle of metropolitan Hong Kong with a hike into the hills and see the famous ‘Big Buddha’, a bronze statue that measures 112 feet in height. Meet your guide at the Tung Chung MTR station before starting the hike up to The Big Buddha. Follow the Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail as it climbs 4.4 miles uphill towards the statue. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills, Tung Chung Bay, Hong Kong airport and the longest bridge in the world - the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. At the top, marvel at the main attraction – the Big Buddha. Known locally as the Tian Tan Buddha, it is one of the largest outdoor Buddha statues in the world. The huge statue is said to symbolize the harmonious relationship between man and nature as well as people and faith. After taking in the sights at the Big Buddha, head right across to the Po Lin Monastery. One of the most important monasteries in the area, it’s known for its sacred Buddhist icons, stately courtyard, and in-house vegetarian restaurant. The last stop on the tour is the Wisdom Path. Just a short walk away from the monastery, this path is known for its 38 wooden columns that each hold verses from the centuries-old Heart Sutra. Listen as the guide translates the verses, invoking words of wisdom and prayer.
