Discover Death Road on an incredible biking trip. The North Yungas Road, as Death Road is officially called, was built during the 1930s by Paraguayan prisoners of war and is one of the best places to discover by mountain bike. It was declared the world’s most dangerous road 1995 by the Interamerican Development Bank.
Get picked up early in the morning from your hotel in La Paz to begin your amazing journey. After a 1.5-hour drive, arrive in La Cumbre at 4,700 meters above sea level. Stop for a small snack and to get ready for your ride.
After a detailed safety briefing set off down the first stretch, a paved section of road where you can pick up some speed as you admire the beautiful mountain vistas. Reach the start of the old road and stop to enjoy another snack as your guide explains the important details of riding down this road.
Cycle through cloud forest, feel the exhilarating rush of riding down one of the world’s most amazing tracks, and pass waterfalls, streams, valleys, and lush jungle. Arrive at Yolosa and head to a jungle lodge, where you can relax by a pool and enjoy a buffet lunch. Take a hot shower before starting the drive back to La Paz.
