What to Expect
This full-day river rafting trip on Costa Rica’s Rio Pacuare is an ideal way to break your journey from the capital to La Fortuna in the shadow of the Arenal volcano.
Departing from San Jose, stop to enjoy the wilderness as you tackle class 3.4 rapids on a stunning stretch of the river. Soak up the lush tropical flora, and colorful birdlife. As a true river gorge, the Rio Pacuare is flanked by steep green walls and home to waterfalls that cascade into the river from both sides.
The wildlife is abundant. As well as birds, such as toucans and parrots, you will see sloths, coatis, butterflies, and brightly colored frogs. But the whitewater is equally exciting; the sheer number of rapids make for a memorable adventure. You will cover some 18 miles (30 kilometers), plunging down 38 rapids.
During the descent, stop to enjoy a buffet style lunch at a beautiful river beach. Then, continue your rafting thrills, ending at Siquirres in the Limón Province. Private showers and cold drinks are available at the exclusive Exploration Center, before your transfer on to La Fortuna.
