Explore the ancient ruins of Ephesus, see the Magnesia Gate, walk through the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, one of the ancient wonders of the world. Finally, stop off in the traditional Turkish villiage of Sirince for a local meal.
What to Expect
Ephesus is a marvel of our ancient past. From the majestic gates of its library to its marble streets, it is best explored with an informative guide who can point out all there is to know about this venerable metropolis.
After meeting at the cruise ship port, you will enter through the Magnesia Gate and begin a relaxed downhill walk with your expert guide. As you wander these streets, you will learn how this once-bustling port city was an important piece of the Greek, Roman and Byzantine Empires. Snap some pictures of the well maintained ruins, marvel at the well preserved library and stand on the stage of the Great Theatre. Imagine what it must have been like to hear one of Euripides' plays performed here in front of 44,000 enthralled spectators.
After Ephesus, we head to the Temple of Artemis. Your imagination has to work a little harder at this ancient wonder of the world, as today there are only a series of columns and scattered ruins of this once great temple.
Next we head to Sirince village, a traditional Turkish village. Here you can mingle with the locals a bit, tasting local cuisine and having a sip of the local wine. We'll have the chance to visit one of the Greek Orthodox Churches for yet another look at local life.
